King James Version
1 Kings • Chapter 16
1
And the word of the Lord came to Jehu the son of Hanani concerning Baasha, saying.
2
Because you have exalted yourself above the dust, and I have made you a leader over my people Israel, and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have caused my people Israel to sin, to provoke me with their sins.
3
Behold, I am about to burn after Baasha and after his house, and I will give your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat.
4
The one who dies in the city, the dogs will eat; and the one who dies in the field, the birds of the sky will eat.
5
And the rest of the words of Baasha and what he did and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
6
And Asa slept with his fathers, and he was buried in Tirzah, and his son Elah reigned in his place.
7
And also by the hand of Jehu son of Hanani the prophet, the word of the Lord came to Baasha and to his house and concerning all the evil that he did in the eyes of the Lord to provoke Him by the work of his hands to be like the house of Jeroboam and concerning what he struck him.
8
In the twentieth and sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah son of Baasha reigned over Israel in Tirzah two years.
9
And my servant Zimri, who is over half the chariots, conspired against me while he was in Tirzah, drinking alcohol in the house of the high place in Tirzah.
10
And Zimri came and struck him, and he killed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned in his place.
11
And it happened when he was reigning, sitting on his throne, he struck down all the house of Baasha; he did not leave for him a male or female in the family.
12
And Zimri destroyed all the house of Baasha, as the word of the Lord which He spoke to Baasha by the hand of Jehu the prophet.
13
To all the sins of Baasha and the sins that he committed and that he caused Israel to sin to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger with their vanities.
14
And the rest of the words of this one and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
15
In the twentieth and seventh year of Asa, king of Judah, Zimri reigned seven days in Tirzah, and the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.
16
And the people who were encamped heard saying, "Zimri has conspired, and he also struck the king," and all Israel anointed Amri, the commander of the army, over Israel that day in the camp.
17
And Omri went up, and all Israel with him, from Gibbethon, and they besieged Tirzah.
18
And it came to pass, when Zimri saw that the city was captured, he went into the palace of the king and burned the house of the king with fire, and he died.
19
Regarding my sin and my transgression, which I committed to do the evil in the eyes of the Lord, to walk in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin, which he committed to make Israel sin.
20
And the rest of the words of Zimri and his conspiracy that he devised, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
21
Then the people of Israel shall be divided; half of the people shall be after the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and the other half after the reign of Omri.
22
And the people who were after Amri grew strong against the people who were after Tibni the son of Ginat, and Tibni died, and Amri reigned.
23
In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri reigned over Israel twelve years; he reigned in Tirzah six years.
24
And he purchased the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver, and he built the hill and called the name of the city which he built after the name of Shemer, the lord of the hill of Samaria.
25
And Omri did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord, and he did worse than all who were before him.
26
And he walked in all the ways of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sin with which he caused Israel to sin, to provoke the Lord God of Israel with their vanities.
27
And the rest of the words of Omri that he did, and his might that he did, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
28
And Omri lay with his ancestors, and he was buried in Samaria, and Ahab his son became king in his place.
29
And Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years.
30
And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD more than all who were before him.
31
And it was, as he walked in the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, that he took a wife, Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and he went and served Baal and worshiped him.
32
And he set up an altar to Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.
33
And Ahab made the Asherah, and Ahab continued to provoke the LORD God of Israel more than all the kings of Israel who were before him.
34
In his days, Hiel built the city of Jericho; he laid its foundations at the cost of Abiram, his firstborn, and he set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son, Segub, according to the word of the Lord that He spoke by the hand of Joshua son of Nun.
