King James Version

1 Kings • Chapter 5

1 And Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the river to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt, bringing tribute and serving Solomon all the days of his life. 2 And there was for Solomon food for one day: thirty kors of fine flour and sixty kors of meal. 3 Ten oxen with a view and twenty oxen for grazing, and a hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, and fatlings, all are fed. 4 For he is a ruler across all the region of the river, from Tiphsach to Gaza, over all the kings of the region of the river, and there was peace for him from all his surrounding neighbors. 5 And Judah and Israel dwelled safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon. 6 And there were to Solomon forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots and twelve thousand horsemen. 7 And the officers supported King Solomon and all who drew near to the table of King Solomon; no man was neglected. 8 And the barley and the straw for the horses and for the mules they will bring to the place that there will be a man according to his judgment. 9 And God gave wisdom to Solomon and very much understanding and a wide heart like the sand that is on the shore of the sea. 10 And the wisdom of Solomon was greater than the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt. 11 And he became wiser than all the men, than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his fame was in all the nations around. 12 And he spoke three thousand proverbs, and his song was one thousand and five. 13 And he spoke about the trees from the cedar that is in Lebanon and down to the hyssop that goes out of the wall, and he spoke about the animals and about the birds and about the creeping things and about the fish. 14 And they came from all the nations to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom. 15 And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon because he heard that they anointed him king in place of his father; for Hiram had always loved David. 16 And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying. 17 You have known that David my father could not build a house for the name of the Lord my God because of the war that surrounded him until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet. 18 And now the LORD has granted me peace; there is no adversary and no evil occurrence.
