King James Version

1 Kings • Chapter 6

1 And it was in the eight hundredth year after the children of Israel went out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, that Solomon began to reign over Israel, and he built the house for the Lord. 2 And the house that King Solomon built for the LORD was sixty cubits in length, twenty cubits in width, and thirty cubits in height. 3 And the porch was twenty cubits long across the front of the house, and ten cubits wide across the front of the house. 4 And he made for the house shuttered windows. 5 And he built upon the wall of the house beds that surrounded its walls, around the temple and around the Holy of Holies, and he made side chambers all around. 6 The execution of the lower part was five cubits wide, and the middle part was six cubits wide, and the third part was seven cubits wide, because he placed ledges around the house outside to prevent it from being held by the walls of the house. 7 And the house, when it was being built, was built of complete stone; neither hammer nor any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was being built. 8 The entrance of the middle side toward the right shoulder of the house, and in the recesses they will ascend upon the middle, and from the middle to the thirties. 9 And he built the house and completed it, and he lined the house with beams and planks of cedar. 10 And he built the structure that was projected over all the house, five cubits high, and he held it to the house with beams of cedar. 11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying. 12 This house that you are building, if you walk in my statutes and do my judgments and keep all my commandments to walk in them, then I will establish my word with you that I spoke to your father David. 13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel and I will not forsake my people Israel. 14 And Solomon built the house and completed it. 15 And he built the walls of the house from the inside with boards of cedar from the floor of the house to the walls of the ceiling; he covered it with wood from the inside, and he overlaid the floor of the house with planks of fir. 16 And he built twenty cubits in length along the sides of the house with cedar boards from the floor to the walls, and he built for him a house for the Most Holy Place. 17 And forty cubits was the house; it was the temple before. 18 And a cedar to the house, the interior, of woven branches and free blossoms, all cedar; there is no stone visible. 19 And the inner sanctuary in the house was prepared to place there the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord. 20 And before the oracle, twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide and twenty cubits high; and he overlaid it with pure gold and covered the altar with cedar. 21 And Solomon overlaid the house with pure gold inside, and he made chains of gold across the front of the inner sanctuary, and he overlaid the inner sanctuary with gold. 22 And he covered all the house with gold until the end of all the house, and all the altar that was in the inner sanctuary he covered with gold. 23 And he made in the inner sanctuary two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high. 24 And five cubits was the wing of one cherub, and five cubits was the wing of the second cherub; ten cubits from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other wing. 25 And ten cubits was the height of the second cherub, one measure and one span for the two cherubim. 26 The height of one cherub was eleven cubits, and so was the second cherub. 27 And he placed the cherubim inside the inner house, and they spread out their wings so that one wing touched the wall, and the wing of the second cherub touched the wall of the second side, and their wings were touching each other in the middle of the house. 28 And he covered the cherubim with gold. 29 And all the walls of the house shall be surrounded by openings of cherubim and palm-trees, and the pillars of the porch shall be lined with carvings inside and out. 30 And the interior of the house was covered with gold, and on the outside. 31 And he made the doors of the entrance to the inner sanctuary of olive wood; the pillars were five. 32 And two doors of olive wood, and he made on them woven cherubim and palm trees and open flowers, and he overlaid the gold, and he placed the gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees. 33 And thus he made for the entrance of the temple doorposts of oilwood from a quarter. 34 And two doors of cedar wood, two side posts; the one door has carvings, and two curtains; the second door has carvings. 35 And he carved cherubim and palm trees and open flowers, and he covered them with beaten gold on the engraved work. 36 And he built the inner courtyard with three rows of hewn stone and a row of cedar beams. 37 In the fourth year, the house of the Lord was established in the month of Ziv. 38 In the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was completed for all its components and for all its ordinances, and he built it in seven years.
