King James Version

1 Peter • Chapter 1

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the elect exiles of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 According to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in Sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ; Grace to you and peace be multiplied. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you 5 those who are kept by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In which you rejoice, though now for a little while you have been grieved by various trials, 7 That the proof of your faith, more precious than gold that perishes though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Whom having not seen, you love; in whom now not seeing, yet believing, you rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy. 9 Receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of souls. 10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the Grace that was to be yours searched and inquired thoroughly. 11 Searching into what or which time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating, testifying beforehand the sufferings concerning Christ and the glories that would follow. 12 To whom it was revealed that they were not serving themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, into which angels long to look. 13 Therefore, having girded up the loins of your mind, being sober completely, set your hope fully upon the Grace that is being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As children of obedience, do not be conformed to the former desires in your ignorance. 15 But according to the One who called you holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct. 16 For it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." 17 And if you call on the Father who judges impartially according to each one's work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay. 18 Knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things, silver or gold, from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, of Christ, 20 foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but manifested in the last times for your sake 21 Those who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. 22 Having purified your souls in obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from the heart. 23 Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but of incorruptible, through the living and enduring word of God; 24 For all flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass; the grass withered, and the flower fell. 25 But the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the word that was preached to you.
