King James Version

2 Chronicles • Chapter 7

1 And when Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the house. 2 And the priests could not enter the house of the LORD because the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD. 3 And all the children of Israel saw the descent of the fire and the glory of the LORD upon the house, and they bowed down with their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshipped, and they gave thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His mercy endures forever. 4 And the king and all the people are offering a sacrifice before the Lord. 5 And King Solomon sacrificed twenty-two thousand oxen and one hundred twenty thousand sheep, and they consecrated the house of God, the king and all the people. 6 And the priests were standing on their posts, and the Levites with the instruments of song of the Lord which David the king made to give thanks to the Lord, for His mercy endures forever, as David had praised by their hand, and the priests were blowing the trumpets before them, and all Israel was standing. 7 And Solomon consecrated the middle of the courtyard that was before the house of the LORD, because he made the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings there; for the bronze altar that Solomon had made was not able to contain the burnt offering and the grain offering and the fat. 8 And Solomon made the festival at that time seven days, and all Israel with him a very great assembly from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of Egypt. 9 And they did on the day of the eighth assembly, because they had dedicated the altar for seven days and the festival for seven days. 10 And on the twenty-third day of the seventh month, he sent the people away to their tents, joyful and with glad hearts because of the good that the Lord had done for David and for Solomon and for Israel His people. 11 And Solomon finished the house of the Lord and the house of the king, and all that came to Solomon's heart to do in the house of the Lord and in his own house he succeeded. 12 And the LORD appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, "I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself for a house of sacrifice." 13 Behold, I will restrain the heavens, and there will be no rain, and behold, I will command the locust to eat the land, and if I send pestilence upon my people. 14 And when My people, who are called by My name, humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land. 15 Now my eyes will be opened and my ears attentive to the prayer of this place. 16 And now I have chosen and consecrated this house to be My name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there all the days. 17 And you, if you walk before Me as David your father walked, and do all that I have commanded you, and keep My statutes and My judgments. 18 And I will establish your throne of your kingdom, as I made covenant with David your father, saying, "A man shall not be cut off from you ruling in Israel." 19 And if you turn away and abandon my statutes and my commandments that I gave before you and go and serve other gods and bow down to them. 20 And I will tear them from off my land which I have given to them and this house which I have consecrated for my name I will cast out of my presence and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all the peoples. 21 And this house that was elevated for all who pass by will be astonished and will say, "Why has the Lord done this to this land and to this house?" 22 And they said regarding that they had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and they held fast to other gods and bowed down to them, and they served them; therefore, He brought upon them all this evil.
