King James Version
2 Peter • Chapter 1
1
Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ;
2
Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
3
As all things pertaining to life and godliness have been given to us through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and virtue,
4
By which He has granted to us the precious and great promises, so that through these you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5
And for this reason, bringing in all diligence, supply in your faith excellence, and in excellence knowledge.
6
And in knowledge temperance, and in temperance patience, and in patience godliness,
7
And in godliness, brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love.
8
For these things, being present and increasing in you, do not make you idle or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9
For whoever does not possess these things is blind, having forgotten the cleansing of his former sins.
10
Therefore, brothers, make every effort to confirm your calling and election; for if you do these things, you will never stumble.
11
For in this way, richly will be supplied to you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
12
Therefore, I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the present truth.
13
I consider it right, as long as I am in this tent, to awaken you by reminder.
14
Knowing that the putting off of my tent is swift, as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me;
15
I will also diligently have you remember them after my departure.
16
For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17
For having received honor and glory from God the Father, when such a voice was conveyed to him by the majestic glory: "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
18
And we heard this voice from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain.
19
And we have the more certain prophetic word, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
20
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation.
21
For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
