King James Version
Deuteronomy • Chapter 12
1
These are the statutes and the judgments which you shall observe to do in the land which the Lord your God gave to your fathers to possess, all the days that you live upon the earth.
2
You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations that you are driving out served their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every leafy tree.
3
And you shall destroy their altars and break their pillars, and you shall burn their Asherim with fire, and you shall cut down the carved images of their gods, and you shall blot out their name from that place.
4
You shall not do so to the Lord your God.
5
For if to the place that the LORD your God will choose from all your tribes to set his name there, you shall seek, and there you shall go.
6
"And you shall bring your burnt offerings and your sacrifices and your tithes and the contribution of your hand and your vows and your freewill offerings and the firstborn of your herd and your flocks."
7
And you shall eat there before the LORD your God, and you shall rejoice in all the work of your hand, you and your households, which the LORD your God has blessed you.
8
You shall not do according to all that we are doing here today, every man whatever is right in his own eyes.
9
For you have not yet come to the resting place and to the inheritance which the Lord your God is giving you.
10
And you shall cross the Jordan and settle in the land that the Lord your God gives you, and He will give you rest from all your enemies round about, and you shall dwell in safety.
11
And it shall be the place that the LORD your God will choose to make His name dwell there; to that place you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the contribution of your hand, and all your finest vowed offerings that you vow to the LORD.
12
And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you and your sons and your daughters, and your male and female servants, and the Levite who is within your gates, for he has no part and inheritance with you.
13
Be careful not to offer your burnt offerings in every place that you see.
14
For only in the place that the Lord will choose among one of your tribes, there you shall bring your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I command you.
15
Only in all the desire of your soul you may slaughter and eat meat according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given to you in all your gates; the unclean and the clean may eat it, like the gazelle and the deer.
16
Only the blood you shall not eat; upon the earth you shall pour it out like water.
17
You shall not be able to eat in your gates the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, and the firstborn of your cattle and your flock, and all your vows that you vow and your freewill offerings and the offering of your hand.
18
For you shall eat before the LORD your God in the place that the LORD your God will choose, you and your son and your daughter and your male servant and your female servant and the Levite who is within your gates, and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God in all the work of your hands.
19
Take heed to yourself, lest you forsake the Levite all your days upon your land.
20
For the LORD your God will enlarge your border as He has spoken to you, and you will say, "I want to eat meat," because your soul desires to eat meat; you may eat meat according to all the desire of your soul.
21
When you are far from the place that the LORD your God will choose to put His name there, and you slaughter from your herd and from your flock which the LORD has given you, as I have commanded you, and you eat within your gates whatever your soul desires.
22
Only what is eaten of the deer and of the gazelle, so you shall eat them; the unclean and the clean together shall eat them.
23
Only be strong not to eat the blood, for the blood is the life, and you shall not eat the life with the flesh.
24
You shall not eat it; you shall pour it out on the ground like water.
25
You shall not eat for the sake of good for you and for your children after you, because you will do what is right in the eyes of the Lord.
26
Only your holy ones that will be for you, and your vows you shall bring, and you shall go to the place that the LORD will choose.
27
And you shall offer your burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood on the altar of the LORD your God, and the blood of your sacrifices shall be poured out on the altar of the LORD your God, and the flesh you shall eat.
28
Keep and listen to all these words that I command you, so that it may be well with you and with your children after you forever, because you will do what is good and right in the eyes of the LORD your God.
29
For the Lord your God will cut off the nations which you are going to dispossess from before you, and you will possess them and dwell in their land.
30
Take heed to yourself, lest you be ensnared after them, after they have been destroyed from before you, and lest you inquire after their gods, saying, "How do these nations serve their gods? I will do so also."
31
You shall not do so to the Lord your God, for all the abominations that the Lord hates they have done to their gods; for they even burned their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.
32
What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
