King James Version

Deuteronomy • Chapter 13

1 You shall keep all the word that I command you; you shall not add to it and you shall not subtract from it. 2 When a prophet or a dreamer arises in your midst and gives you a sign or a wonder 3 And the sign and the wonder that I spoke to you, saying, Let us go after other gods which you have not known, and let us serve them. 4 You shall not listen to the words of that prophet or to that dreamer, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 5 You shall walk after the LORD your God, and Him you shall fear, and His commandments you shall keep, and His voice you shall obey, and Him you shall serve, and to Him you shall cling. 6 And the prophet or the dreamer shall be put to death because he has spoken perversely against the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of bondage to turn you away from the way which the LORD your God commanded you to walk in; and you shall purge the evil from your midst. 7 For if your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul, secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and serve other gods, which you have not known, you and your fathers," 8 From the God of the nations that are around you, whether near to you or far from you, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth. 9 You shall not desire him, and you shall not listen to me, and you shall not spare your eye over him, and you shall not show pity nor cover for him. 10 For you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be the first to be upon him to put him to death, and the hand of all the people shall be last. 11 And you shall stone him with stones and he shall die, because he sought to lead you astray from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 12 And all Israel shall hear and fear, and they shall not continue to do this evil thing in your midst. 13 When you hear in one of your cities which the LORD your God is giving you to dwell there, saying... 14 Men of Belial went out from among you and persuaded the inhabitants of your city, saying, "Let us go and serve other gods whom you have not known." 15 And you shall seek and investigate and ask diligently, and behold, the matter is true and correct, this abomination has been done in your midst. 16 You shall strike the inhabitants of the city; he, she, and all that is in it, and its livestock, you shall strike with the sword. 17 And you shall gather all her spoils into the midst of her square and you shall burn with fire the city and all her spoils completely to the Lord your God, and it shall be a ruin forever; it shall not be rebuilt again. 18 And nothing of the devoted thing shall cling to your hand, so that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of His anger and show you compassion and have mercy on you and multiply you, as He swore to your fathers.
