King James Version

Deuteronomy • Chapter 18

1 There will be no portion or inheritance for the priests, the Levites, among all the tribe of Levi, with Israel; they shall eat the fire offerings of the Lord and his inheritance. 2 And there will not be a share for him among his brothers; the Lord is his inheritance, as He has spoken to him. 3 And this will be the judgment of the priests from the people, from those who offer the sacrifice, whether an ox or a sheep, and he shall give to the priest the shoulder, the two cheeks, and the maw. 4 The first of your grain, your new wine, and your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep you shall give to him. 5 For the Lord your God has chosen from all your tribes to stand and serve in the name of the Lord, he and his sons all the days. 6 And when the Levite comes from one of your gates from all Israel, where he resides, and comes to the place that the Lord will choose with all the desire of his soul. 7 And serve in the name of the Lord my God, as all my brothers the Levites who stand there before the Lord. 8 Part as/part they will eat separately from my sale and on the fathers. 9 For you are about to enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you; you must not learn to do the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you someone who makes their son or daughter pass through the fire, a diviner, a soothsayer, an interpreter of omens, or a sorcerer. 11 And a medium, and one who consults the dead, and one who inquires of the spirits. 12 For it is an abomination to the Lord, all who do these things, and because of these abominations, the Lord your God will dispossess them from before you. 13 You shall be blameless with the Lord your God. 14 For the nations these which you are about to inherit listen to those who practice divination and to those who observe omens, but as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you so. 15 A prophet from your midst, from your brothers, like me, will the LORD your God raise up for you; to him you shall listen. 16 According to all that you asked from the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, "I will not continue to hear the voice of the Lord my God, and this great fire I will not see anymore, lest I die." 17 And the Lord said to me, "They have spoken well." 18 I will raise up a prophet for them from among their brothers, like you, and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. 19 And it shall be that the man who does not listen to the words which he speaks in My name, I will require it of him. 20 But the prophet who shall presume to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who shall speak in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die. 21 And when you say in your heart, "How shall we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?" 22 If the prophet speaks in the name of the Lord and the word does not happen and does not come about, that is the word which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.
