King James Version
Deuteronomy • Chapter 24
1
If a man takes a woman and has relations with her, and it happens that she does not find favor in his eyes because he has found in her something indecent, and he writes her a certificate of divorce and gives it into her hand and sends her away from his house.
2
And she goes out from his house and goes and becomes the wife of another man.
3
And if the last man hates her and writes for her a certificate of divorce and gives it into her hand and sends her away from his house, or if the last man dies who took her as a wife.
4
A husband cannot take back his first wife after she has been sent away, to be his wife again, after she has been defiled, for that is an abomination before the Lord, and you shall not bring sin upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.
5
When a man takes a new wife, he shall not go out to war or be assigned to any duty; he shall be free at home for one year and shall bring happiness to his wife whom he has taken.
6
A person shall not harm a soul, for it is a life that he harms.
7
If a man is found stealing a soul from among his brothers, the children of Israel, and he deals with him severely and he dies, the thief must be put away from among you.
8
Be very careful concerning the plague of leprosy, to observe and to do according to all that the priests, the Levites, shall teach you, as I commanded them; you shall be careful to do.
9
Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam on the way as you came out of Egypt.
10
When you lend a thing to your neighbor, you shall not go into his house to take his pledge.
11
Stand outside, and the man to whom you are lending will bring you the pledge outside.
12
And if he is a poor man, you shall not lie down in pledge.
13
You shall surely return the pledge to him when the sun goes down, and he shall lie down in his garment, and you shall bless him, and it shall be righteousness for you before the Lord your God.
14
You shall not oppress a poor and needy hired servant from your brothers or from your sojourner who is in your land within your gates.
15
On his day you shall give his wage, and the sun shall not set upon him, for he is poor and he lifts up his soul to it; and he shall not call out against you to the Lord, and it shall be sin in you.
16
Fathers shall not be put to death for sons, and sons shall not be put to death for fathers; each person shall be put to death for his own sin.
17
You shall not distort the judgment of the stranger or the orphan, and you shall not take a pledge on the garment of the widow.
18
And you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and the Lord your God redeemed you from there; therefore I command you to do this thing.
19
When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to take it; it shall be for the stranger, for the orphan, and for the widow, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
20
For when you beat your olive tree, you shall not strip it bare; for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow it shall be.
21
When you harvest your vineyard, you shall not glean after yourself; it shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow.
22
And you shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt; therefore, I command you to do this thing.
