King James Version
Deuteronomy • Chapter 25
1
When there is a dispute between men and they approach for judgment, they shall judge them, and they shall justify the righteous and condemn the wicked.
2
And it shall be, if the judge strikes the wicked man and inflicts upon him according to the measure of his wickedness.
3
Forty times he shall strike him; he shall not add, lest he add to beat him with many stripes, and your brother shall be degraded in your eyes.
4
You shall not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.
5
If brothers dwell together and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead man shall not become the wife of a stranger outside; her brother-in-law shall go to her and take her for a wife and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her.
6
And it shall be that the firstborn which you bear shall stand upon the name of his brother who is dead, and his name shall not be wiped out from Israel.
7
And if the man does not want to take his brother's widow, then his brother's widow shall go up to the gate to the elders and say, "My husband's brother refuses to establish a name for his brother in Israel; he does not want to marry me."
8
And they will call for the elders of his city and they will speak to me, and he will stand and say, "I did not want to take her."
9
And his sister-in-law shall approach me before the elders, and she shall remove her sandal from his foot and spit in my face and say, "Thus shall be done to the man who does not build up his brother's house."
10
And his name shall be called in Israel The House of the Pulling Off of the Shoe.
11
If men fight together, one man and his brother, and the wife of one draws near to rescue her husband from the hand of the one striking him, and she reaches out her hand and grasps his private parts.
12
And you shall not spare your eye from cutting it off.
13
There shall not be for you in your pouch a large stone and a small stone.
14
There shall not be for you in your house an ephah and an ephah, a large one and a small one.
15
A complete and just stone shall be for you; a complete and just ephah shall be for you, so that your days may be prolonged upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
16
For it is an abomination to the LORD your God, all who do these things, all who do unrighteousness.
17
Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you were coming out of Egypt.
18
That which overtakes you on the way and harasses you, all the hinderers behind you, and you are weary and exhausted, and do not fear God.
19
And it shall be when the LORD your God has given you rest from all your enemies all around in the land which the LORD your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess it, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget.
