King James Version

Deuteronomy • Chapter 28

1 And it will be, if you listen closely to the voice of the Lord your God, to keep to do all His commandments that I command you today, then the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you will listen to the voice of the Lord your God. 3 Blessed are you in the city and blessed are you in the field. 4 Blessed is the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land and the fruit of your livestock, the young of your cattle and the flocks of your sheep. 5 Blessed are you and your servants. 6 Blessed are you when you come in and blessed are you when you go out. 7 The LORD will give your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you; they will come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. 8 The LORD will command the blessing upon you in your storehouses and in all that you set your hand to, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you. 9 The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, as He swore to you if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. 10 And all the peoples of the earth shall see that the name of the Lord is called upon you, and they shall fear you. 11 And the Lord will grant you good in the fruit of your womb and in the fruit of your livestock and in the fruit of your ground on the land which the Lord swore to your ancestors to give to you. 12 The Lord will open to you His good treasury, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand, and you will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. 13 And the Lord will give you a head and not a tail, and you will be only above and not below, if you listen to the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today to observe and to do. 14 And you shall not turn aside from any of the words that I command you today, to the right or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them. 15 And it will be, if you do not listen to the voice of the Lord your God to keep and to do all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, then all these curses will come upon you and overtake you. 16 Cursed are you in the city, and cursed are you in the field. 17 Cursed be your tent and your servants. 18 Cursed is the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, the increase of your cattle and the young of your flock. 19 Cursed are you in your coming and cursed are you in your going. 20 The LORD will send upon you the curse, the panic, and the rebuke in every effort of your hand that you do until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly from the evil of your deeds that you have forsaken me. 21 The Lord will cling to you the matter until He has finished with you from the land which you are going to possess. 22 The LORD will strike you with the botch of Egypt, and with tumors, and with the itch, and with fever, and with the sword, and with the scorching wind, and with the yellow jaundice, and they will pursue you until you perish. 23 And your heavens that are above your head shall be bronze, and the earth that is beneath you shall be iron. 24 The Lord will give you the rain of your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil. 25 The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies; you shall go out against them one way and flee before them seven ways, and you shall become a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth. 26 And your carcass shall be food for all the birds of the sky and for the beasts of the earth, and there will be no one to frighten. 27 The Lord will strike Egypt with boils and with scabs and with blains and with dust, so that you will not be able to be healed. 28 The LORD will strike with madness and blindness and confusion of heart. 29 And you shall be groping at noon as the blind gropes in darkness, and you will not succeed in your ways, and you shall be only oppressed and robbed all the days, and there is no one to save. 30 A woman will be betrothed, and another man will lie with her; a house will be built, and he will not dwell in it; a vineyard will be planted, and he will not enjoy its fruit. 31 Your bull is slaughtered before your eyes, and you shall not eat from it; your donkey is stolen from before you, and it shall not return to you; your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and there shall be no savior for you. 32 Your sons and your daughters are given to another people, and your eyes see them all day long, but there is no strength in your hand. 33 The fruit of your land and all your labor will be eaten by a nation you do not know, and you will be only oppressed and crushed all the days. 34 And you shall be driven mad by the sight of your eyes that you shall see. 35 The LORD will strike you with terrible boils on your knees and on your legs, which you will not be able to heal from the sole of your foot to the top of your head. 36 The Lord will lead you and your king whom you set over you to a nation that you have not known, you and your ancestors, and there you will serve other gods, wood and stone. 37 And you shall be a horror and a proverb and a byword among all the nations that the Lord will drive you there. 38 A great seed will produce the field, and a little will be gathered because the locust will consume us. 39 You will plant vineyards and work them, but you will not drink wine and you will not gather it, for you will eat the worm. 40 Olive trees shall be for you in all your borders, and oil shall not cease because your olive tree will yield. 41 Sons and daughters will be born, and they will not be to you, for they will go into captivity. 42 All your trees and the fruit of your land will be inherited by the Lord. 43 The stranger who is in your midst shall rise up against you, and you shall fall down lower and lower. 44 He will lead you, and you will not lead him; he will be for the head, and you will be for the tail. 45 And all these curses shall come upon you and pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you did not listen to the voice of the Lord your God to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. 46 And they shall be for you as a sign and as a wonder, and in your descendants forever. 47 Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and with a glad heart, because of the abundance of all things. 48 And you shall serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you in hunger and in thirst and in nakedness and in want of all things; and he will put a yoke of iron upon your neck until he has destroyed you. 49 The LORD will bring against you a nation from afar, from the end of the earth, like an eagle that flies, a nation whose language you will not understand. 50 A strong nation that does not show favoritism to the old and shows no Grace to the young. 51 And you shall eat the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground until you are destroyed, which shall not leave you grain, new wine, or oil; the young of your herd and the young of your flock until He has caused you to perish. 52 And He will besiege you in all your gates until the fall of your high walls and the fortifications in which you trust in all your land, and He will besiege you in all your gates in all your land which the Lord your God has given to you. 53 And you shall eat the fruit of your womb, the flesh of your sons and your daughters, which the Lord your God has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you. 54 The man who is soft with you and very delicate will cause his eyes to be evil toward his brother and toward the wife of his bosom and toward the rest of his children that he may have. 55 "To give to one of them of the flesh of your sons which he shall eat without leaving to him anything in the siege and in the distress that your enemy shall press you in all your gates." 56 The tender one in you and the delicate one who has not set the sole of her foot upon the ground from the delicacy, and from softness, her eye will be evil toward the man of her bosom and toward her son and toward her daughter. 57 And in her may be the one who goes out from between your legs and in her sons whom she will bear, for they will eat in the lack of all secrecy in distress and in pressure which your enemy will cause you in your gates. 58 If you do not keep to do all the words of this law that are written in this book to fear this honored and fearful name, Yahweh your God. 59 And the LORD will distinguish your plague and the plagues of your seed, great plagues and faithful ones, and evil and faithful sicknesses. 60 And He will bring back upon you all the sicknesses of Egypt that you were afraid of, and they will cling to you. 61 Also every sickness and every plague that is not written in this Book of the Law, Yahweh will bring upon you until He has destroyed you. 62 And you will be left few in number, instead of being like the stars of heaven for abundance, because you did not listen to the voice of the Lord your God. 63 And it shall be that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do good for you and to multiply you, so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you and to exterminate you, and you shall be swept away from the land which you are entering to possess. 64 And the Lord will scatter you among all the nations from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth, and there you will serve other gods, which you and your fathers have not known, wood and stone. 65 And among the nations they will not rest, and there will be no peace for your feet, and the Lord will give you there a trembling heart and failing eyes and a sorrowful soul. 66 And your life shall be hanging in doubt before you, and you shall be in dread both night and day, and you shall not have assurance in your life. 67 In the morning you will say, "Who will give evening?" and in the evening you will say, "Who will give morning?" because of the dread of your heart that you dread and because of the sight of your eyes that you see. 68 And the Lord will return you to Egypt on ships, by the way that I said to you, 'You shall see it no more,' and there you will sell yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you.
