King James Version

Deuteronomy • Chapter 3

1 And we turned and went up the way of Bashan, and Og, the king of Bashan, came out to meet us, he and all his people, for battle. 2 And the LORD said to me, "Do not fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, along with all his people and his land, and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who dwells in Heshbon." 3 And the LORD our God gave into our hands also Og king of Bashan and all his people, and we struck him down until not a remnant remained. 4 And we captured all the cities of the region; at that time there was no city that we did not take from them, sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 5 All these cities are in stronghold walls, with high doors and a bar, apart from the cities of the open country, which are very many. 6 And we will utterly destroy them as we did to Sihon king of Heshbon, we will destroy every city, men, women, and children. 7 And all the cattle and the spoil of the cities we plundered. 8 And he took at that time the land from the hand of two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, from the valley of Amon to Mount Hermon. 9 The Sidonians will call it Hermon, and the Amorites will call it Senir. 10 All the cities of the plain and all of Gilead and all of Bashan as far as Salcah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 11 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of the giants; behold, his bedstead is a bed of iron. Is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? Nine cubits is its length, and four cubits its width, according to the cubit of a man. 12 And we took possession of this land at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half of the hill country of Gilead; I gave it to the Reubenites and to the Gadites. 13 And the rest of Gilead and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, all of Bashan, that is called the land of the giants. 14 Jair son of Manasseh took all the region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and he called them by his name, the Bashan villages of Jair, to this day. 15 And to Machir, I gave the Gilead. 16 And to Reuben and to Gad I have given from Gilead and as far as the Arnon River, in the midst of the river and the border, and as far as the Jabbok River, the border of the children of Ammon. 17 And the Arabah, and the Jordan, and the border from Kinnereth, and to the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, under Asdoth Pisgah, eastward. 18 And I commanded you at that time, saying, "The Lord your God has given you this land to possess it; armed men shall cross over before your brothers, the children of Israel, all the mighty men." 19 Only your wives and your children and your livestock I knew, for you have much livestock that dwell in your cities which I have given to you. 20 Until the Lord gives rest to your brothers like you, and they also inherit the land that the Lord your God is giving them across the Jordan, and you shall return, each man to his inheritance that I have given you. 21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, "Your eyes see all that the Lord your God has done to these two kings; so the Lord will do to all the kingdoms to which you are crossing." 22 Do not be afraid, for the LORD your God is the one who fights for you. 23 And I pleaded with the Lord at that time, saying 24 Lord, you are beginning to show your servant your greatness and your strong hand, for what god in the heavens and on the earth can do according to your deeds and your mighty acts? 25 Let me go over and see the good land that is across the Jordan, this good mountain and Lebanon. 26 And the LORD became angry with me for your sake, and He did not listen to me. And the LORD said to me, "It is enough for you; do not speak to me anymore about this matter." 27 Go up to the top of the hill and lift your eyes westward and northward and southward and eastward and see with your eyes that you will not cross this Jordan. 28 And command Joshua and strengthen him and encourage him, for he will go before this people and he will cause them to inherit the land that you see. 29 And we sat by the bay, opposite the house of Peor.
