King James Version
Deuteronomy • Chapter 5
1
And Moses called to all Israel and said to them, "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the judgments which I speak in your ears today, and you shall learn them and keep them to do them."
2
The LORD our God made a covenant with us at Horeb.
3
The LORD did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, all of us here, alive today.
4
The Lord spoke to you face to face on the mountain out of the midst of the fire.
5
I stand between the LORD and you at that time to tell you the word of the LORD because you feared before the fire and did not go up the mountain, saying.
6
I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves.
7
You shall have no other gods before Me.
8
You shall not make for yourself a carved image, any likeness of what is in heaven above or what is in the earth below or what is in the water beneath the earth.
9
You shall not bow down to them and you shall not serve them, for I am the Lord your God, a jealous God, punishing the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and upon the third and upon the fourth generation of those who hate me.
10
And He does kindness for thousands to those who love Me and to those who keep My commandments.
11
You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
12
Guard the Sabbath day to keep it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you.
13
For six days you shall labor and do all your work.
14
And on the seventh day, it is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work, you, and your son, and your daughter, and your male servant, and your female servant, and your cattle, and the donkey, and all your livestock, and the stranger who is within your gates, so that your male servant and your female servant may rest as you do.
15
And you shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out from there with a strong hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore, the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
16
Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
17
You shall not murder.
18
And you shall not commit adultery.
19
And you shall not steal.
20
And you shall not answer against your neighbor as a false witness.
21
And you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, and you shall not desire your neighbor's house, his field, and his servant, and his maid, his ox, and his donkey, and everything that belongs to your neighbor.
22
These are the words that the LORD spoke to all your assembly at the mountain from the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the thick darkness, with a loud voice; and He added no more. And He wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.
23
And it came to pass when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness and the mountain burning with fire, that all the heads of your tribes and your elders drew near to me.
24
And they said, "Behold, the LORD our God has shown us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice from the midst of the fire; this day we have seen that God speaks with man, and he lives."
25
And now, why should we die because this great fire consumes us if we continue to hear the voice of the Lord our God any longer and we die?
26
For who is there of all flesh that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?
27
You shall draw near, and you shall hear all that the LORD our God will say; and you shall speak to us all that the LORD our God will speak to you, and we will hear and do.
28
And the Lord heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me, and the Lord said to me, "I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you; they have done well all that they have spoken."
29
Who will give that this heart of theirs will be to fear Me and to keep all My commandments all the days, so that it will be good for them and for their children forever?
30
Go tell them, "Return to your tents."
31
And you, stand here with me, and I will speak to you all the commandments and the statutes and the judgments that you shall teach them, and they shall do in the land which I am giving to them to possess.
32
And you shall keep to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right or to the left.
33
In all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, you shall walk, so that you may live and it shall be well with you, and you may prolong your days in the land that you shall possess.
