King James Version
Deuteronomy • Chapter 8
1
All the commandment that I command you today, you shall observe to do, that you may live and multiply and go in and possess the land which the Lord swore to your fathers.
2
And you shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, in order to humble you, to test you, to know what is in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.
3
And He afflicted you and He made you hungry and He fed you with the manna that you did not know and your forefathers did not know, in order to make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but by all that comes out of the mouth of the Lord man lives.
4
Your garment has not worn out upon you, and your foot has not swollen; this is forty years.
5
And you shall know in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.
6
And you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God to walk in His ways and to fear Him.
7
For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of streams of water, springs, and depths that spring forth in the valley and in the hill.
8
A land of wheat and barley, and vine and fig and pomegranate; a land of olive oil and honey.
9
A land in which you will not eat bread in poverty; you will not lack anything in it. A land whose stones are iron, and from its mountains you will mine copper.
10
And you shall eat and be satisfied, and bless the LORD your God for the good land that He has given you.
11
Take heed to yourself, lest you forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today.
12
Lest you eat and be satisfied, and build good houses and dwell.
13
And in your flock, they will increase, and silver and gold will multiply to you, and all that is yours will increase.
14
And your heart becomes haughty, and you forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
15
Who leads you in the great and fearful wilderness, a poisonous snake and scorpion and thirst, where there is no water, He brings forth water for you from the rock of flint.
16
He fed you manna in the desert, which your fathers did not know, to humble you and to test you, to do good for you in your latter days.
17
And you will say in your heart, "My strength and the might of my hand have made for me this power."
18
And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to make wealth, in order to establish His covenant which He swore to your forefathers, as it is this day.
19
And it will be, if you forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish.
20
As the nations that the Lord will destroy before you, so you will perish, because you will not listen to the voice of the Lord your God.
