King James Version

Exodus • Chapter 8

1 And the LORD said to Moses, "Say to Aaron, 'Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, over the canals, and over the ponds, and bring up the frogs upon the land of Egypt.'" 2 And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frog rose up and covered the land of Egypt. 3 And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and they brought up the frogs upon the land of Egypt. 4 And Pharaoh called to Moses and Aaron and said, "Entreat Yahweh that He may remove the frogs from me and from my people, and I will let the people go, and they will sacrifice to Yahweh." 5 And Moses said to Pharaoh, "How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me. If you refuse to let my people go, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your border, and they shall cover the face of the earth, so that no one will be able to see the earth; and they shall eat the residue of what is left to you after the hail, and they shall eat every tree which grows up for you out of the field. They shall fill your houses, the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians, which neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen since the day that they were on the earth to this day." And he turned and went out from Pharaoh. 6 And he said to tomorrow, and he said, "As your word, in order that you may know that there is no one like the Lord our God." 7 And the frogs will depart from you and from your houses and from your servants and from your people; they will remain only in the river. 8 And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and Moses cried out to the Lord concerning the frogs that He had brought upon Pharaoh. 9 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses, and the frogs died out from the houses, from the courtyards, and from the fields. 10 And they gathered their clay, and the earth became foul. 11 And Pharaoh saw that there was relief, and he hardened his heart and did not listen to them as the Lord had spoken. 12 And the LORD said to Moses, "Say to Aaron, 'Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, and it will become gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.'" 13 And they did so, and Aaron waved his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the ground, and it became gnats among people and animals; all the dust of the earth became gnats throughout all the land of Egypt. 14 And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth the lice, but they could not; and there were lice on man and on beast. 15 And the magicians said to Pharaoh, "It is the finger of God," and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had spoken. 16 And the LORD said to Moses, "Get up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh. Behold, he goes out to the water, and you shall say to him, 'Thus says the LORD: Let my people go that they may serve me.'" 17 For if you do not send away My people, behold, I am sending swarms of flies upon you and upon your servants and upon your people and upon your houses; and the houses of Egypt shall be filled with swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are. 18 And I will distinguish on that day the land of Goshen, where My people are standing, so that no swarm will be there, in order that you may know that I am the LORD in the midst of the land. 19 And I will put a distinction between My people and your people; tomorrow this sign will happen. 20 And the LORD did so, and a heavy swarm of flies came into the house of Pharaoh and into the house of his servants, and in all the land of Egypt the land was destroyed because of the swarm. 21 And Pharaoh called to Moses and to Aaron and said, "Go, sacrifice to your God in the land." 22 And Moses said, "It is not right to do so, for we would be sacrificing the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God. Behold, if we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, they will not stone us." 23 We will go three days' journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God as He will say to us. 24 And Pharaoh said, "I will send you, and you shall sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness; only, do not go very far away. Pray for me." 25 And Moses said, "Behold, I am going out from you, and I will pray to the LORD, and the swarm of flies will depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people tomorrow. Only let not Pharaoh continue to deceive by not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD." 26 And Moses went out from Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord. 27 And the Lord did according to the word of Moses, and He removed the mixture from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; not one remained. 28 And Pharaoh hardened his heart also this time, and did not let the people go. 29 And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, to morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD. 30 And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD. 31 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; there remained not one. 32 And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he let the people go.
