King James Version
Ezekiel • Chapter 17
1
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying.
2
Son of man, set forth a riddle and a parable to the house of Israel.
3
And you shall say, thus says my Lord Yahweh: The great eagle, great in wings, long in feathers, full of plumage which is on it, came to Lebanon and took the top of the cedar.
4
He took the head of the young goats and brought it to the land of Canaan in the city of traders.
5
And he took from the seed of the land and he gave it into a foreign field, taken upon many waters, a dragonfly settled.
6
And it sprouted, and it became a vine of a low stature, facing my windows, and its roots were beneath me, and it became a vine, and it made branches, and it sent out shoots.
7
And there was one great eagle with large wings and many feathers, and behold, this vine bent its roots toward him and sent its branches to him to water it from the shoots of its planting.
8
She is planted in a good field by abundant waters to produce a branch and to bear fruit to be a glorious vine.
9
Thus says my Lord Yahweh: "Will it not succeed? Will I not uproot its roots, and gather its fruits, and dry up all its plants? It will be dried up, and it will not be by a great arm and by a many people to lift it up from its roots."
10
And behold, a planted tree; will it succeed? Will the east wind dry it out? It will wither on the stalks of its vegetation; it will wither.
11
And the word of the Lord came to me saying.
12
Say now to the house of the Meri: Do you not know what these are? Say, Behold, the king of Babylon has come to Jerusalem and he has taken its king and its princes and has brought them to Babylon.
13
And he took from the seed of the kingdom and cut a covenant with him, and he brought him to a worship and took the rams of the land.
14
To be a lowly kingdom, lest it become exalted, to keep its covenant, to endure.
15
And he rebelled against him to send my messengers to Egypt to give him horses and a great people. Will he escape? Will he be delivered, the one who does these things and breaks the covenant and is rescued?
16
As surely as I live, declares the Lord Yahweh, if in the place of the king who appoints him, who has despised his oath and broken his covenant with him in the midst of Babylon, he will die.
17
And Pharaoh will not do it with a great army and in a multitude, when he pours out the embankment and in the daughters enough to destroy many lives.
18
And he despised to break the covenant, and behold, he has given his hand, and all these he has done; he will not be delivered.
19
Therefore, thus says my Lord Yahweh: As surely as I live, if I do not give him that which he despised and my covenant which he broke, I will put it on his head.
20
And I will spread over him my net, and he will be caught in my trap, and I will bring him to Babylon, and I will judge him there for his transgressions which he has committed against me.
21
And all those who flee from his escape will fall by the sword in all his sides, and the survivors will be scattered to every wind, and you will know that I, the LORD, have spoken.
22
Thus says my Lord, the Lord: I will take from the top of the cedar, from the lofty branch, and I will plant it on a high and elevated mountain.
23
On the mountain of Israel, I will plant it, and it will lift a branch and bear fruit, and it will become a majestic cedar, and all the birds will dwell under it, every winged thing in the shade of its branches.
24
And all the trees of the field shall know that I am Yahweh; I have brought low the high tree, I have exalted the low tree, I have dried up the green tree, and I have made the dry tree flourish. I am Yahweh; I have spoken, and I will do it.
