Ezekiel • Chapter 27
1
And the word of the Lord came to me saying.
2
And you, son of man, take up a lamentation.
3
And you shall say to the rock, "You who dwell at the entrance of the sea, merchant of the peoples to many islands, thus says my Lord Yahweh: 'Rock, you have said, "I am the perfection of beauty."'"
4
In the heart of the seas your borders, your builders are altogether beautiful.
5
From the fir trees of Senir they built for you all your pillars; they took cedar from Lebanon to make your mast.
6
Oaks from Bashan made your beams; fir trees made your pillars of ash trees from the coasts of Tyre.
7
Six in embroidery from Egypt was your covering to be for you a sign of blue and purple from the shores of Elishah was your covering.
8
The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your wise men; Tyre was your very skilled workers.
9
The elders of the border and your wise men held fast to your command; all the ships of the sea and their sailors were in your service for the purpose of trade.
10
Paras and Lud and Put were in your army, men of your warfare; shield and helmet they placed upon you; they gave you splendor.
11
Sons of Arvad and your walls, around and mighty ones in your towers, were their rulers. They hung on your walls, around; they all included your beauty.
12
Tarsish has traded with you for a great deal of wealth in silver, iron, tin, and lead; they have given you in return.
13
Greece, Tubal, and Meshech—these are your merchants; they traded with you for human lives and bronze tools.
14
From the house of Togarmah, horses and horsemen and young steeds have given your abandonment.
15
The sons of Dedan are merchants; many are their ships, trading with your hands. They brought back your wages.
16
Aram has traded with you for the abundance of your goods, in purple and in linen and in fine wool, in the best fabrics, and in your precious items.
17
Judah and the land of Israel are your merchants in wheat of Minnith, and in panag and in honey and in oil and in balm; they gave you for your wares.
18
Damascus your merchandise, in the abundance of your works, from the abundance of all wealth, in the blood of the grapes and fine wool.
19
And Dan and Greece have been given to your abandon; we have made a forge and a beam in your west.
20
Dan, you are trading in garments of freedom for a vehicle.
21
Arab and all the leaders of Kedar, they are your traders in lambs, rams, and goats.
22
The merchants of Sheba and Raamah are your merchants in all kinds of spices and in every precious stone and gold they have given your payment.
23
Haran and Canaan and Eden, merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and the traders.
24
They are merchants of embroidered garments in blue and purple, and in treasures of finely woven fabrics in tightly bound ropes and in your vessels.
25
The ships of Tarshish will lead in your pride, when you are filled and greatly honored in the heart of the seas.
26
In great waters they brought you, the ships broke you in the heart of the seas.
27
Your wealth and your fortifications, your ships and your ropes that hold your mooring, and the ravens of your west, and all the men of your army that are in you, and in all your assembly that is in you, shall fall into the heart of the seas on the day of your downfall.
28
At the sound of your cry, the shores will tremble.
29
And they will descend from their ships, all who hold the oar, all the sailors, all who navigate the sea, will stand upon the land.
30
And they will make their voice heard against you, and they will cry out bitterly, and they will raise dust upon their heads; in the ash, they will be covered.
31
And they shall come to you with a bald head, and they shall gird themselves with sackcloth and shall weep to you in bitter anguish, mourning bitterly.
32
And they will lift up a lament over you and will declare a mourning for you, saying, "Who is like Tyre, like one destroyed in the midst of the sea?"
33
When you go out of your exile, you will be filled with many nations with the abundance of your wealth, and your west will enrich the kings of the earth.
34
The time is broken from the depths of the waters, your west, and all your multitude have fallen within you.
35
All the inhabitants of the islands are amazed at you, and their kings have shaven their beards in horror.
36
Merchants among the peoples have made sounds against you; you were a marvel and you shall not be forever.
