King James Version

Ezekiel • Chapter 31

1 And it was in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying... 2 Son of man, say to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and to his multitude, to whom are you like in your greatness? 3 Behold, Assyria is a cedar in Lebanon, beautiful in branch and forest, majestic in height, and its top is among the thick boughs. 4 The waters grew; the deep was lifted up; it went around my rivers; and sent its channels to all the trees of the field. 5 Therefore, her height was greater than all the trees of the field, and her boughs multiplied, and her branches lengthened from many waters in her spreading. 6 In my anger all the birds of the heavens mourn, and under my shade all the creatures of the field gave birth, and in its shadow sit many nations. 7 And he will spread in his greatness along the length of my garments, for his root was to much water. 8 Cedar trees were not like my towers in the garden of God; firs were not like my boughs, and pomegranates were not like my fruits; every tree in the garden of God was not like my beauty. 9 I have made beauty in my many delights, and all the trees of Eden that are in the garden of God envied him. 10 Therefore, thus says Lord Yahweh, because you have lifted yourself up in height and have set your nest in the rocks, and your heart has been raised in pride. 11 And I will give him into the hand of the nations; they will act against him according to his wickedness; I have driven him away. 12 And they cut off from him foreign tyrants of nations, and they were cast upon the mountains, and in all valleys my drops fell, and my fountains were broken in all channels of the earth, and all the peoples of the earth descended from his shade, and they were cast upon him. 13 Upon its fall, all the birds of the heavens will settle on it, and all the beasts of the field will be upon its branches. 14 So that they may not be raised in their height, all the trees of water, and they shall not give their tops among the trunks, and they shall not stand by their height, all those who drink water, for they are all given to death in the lower earth among the sons of man who go down to the pit. 15 Thus said my Lord Yahweh: On the day of my descent to Sheol, I covered over the deep; I prevented its rivers, and the great waters were restrained. I darkened Lebanon and all the trees of the field were withered. 16 From the sound of your fall, I shook nations; when I brought you down to the pit, all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, were comforted in the lower parts of the earth, all who drink water. 17 They too went down to the grave with him, to those pierced by the sword, and his arms rested among the shadows in the midst of the nations. 18 To whom have you likened such glory and greatness among the cedars of Eden, and you have brought down the cedars of Eden to the lowest land, among the uncircumcised you will lie with the slain by the sword; he is Pharaoh and all his multitude, says my Lord Yahweh.
