King James Version

Hebrews • Chapter 2

1 Therefore, it is necessary for us to pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away. 2 For if the word spoken through angels became unchangeable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense, 3 How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which, having been spoken first by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard? 4 While God was bearing witness with signs and wonders and various miracles and distributions of the Holy Spirit according to his will? 5 For He did not subject to angels the world to come, concerning which we speak; 6 And someone was protesting, saying: What is man that you remember him, or the son of man that you visit him? 7 You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor. 8 You have subjected all things under his feet; for in subjecting all things, he left nothing unsubjected to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him. 9 But we see Jesus, made a little lower than the angels for a short time, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the Grace of God he might taste death for everyone. 10 For it was fitting for him, through whom are all things and by whom are all things, to bring many sons to glory, to make the leader of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 11 For both the one who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one; for this reason he is not ashamed to call them brothers. 12 Saying: I will declare your name to my brothers, in the midst of the church I will sing your praise. 13 And again: I will be confident in Him; and again: Here I am, and the children whom God has given me. 14 Since the children have shared in blood and flesh, he likewise shared in the same, that through death he might nullify the one having the power of death, that is, the devil. 15 And he will free those who were enslaved all their lives by the fear of death. 16 For surely he does not take hold of angels, but he takes hold of the seed of Abraham. 17 For this reason, he was obligated to be made like his brothers in all respects, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in relation to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 For in that he himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
