King James Version
Isaiah • Chapter 1
1
The vision of Isaiah son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
2
Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for the Lord has spoken: I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.
3
The ox knows its owner and the donkey its master's feeding trough, but Israel does not know; my people do not understand.
4
Woe to the sinful nation, a people heavy with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children who are corrupt; they have forsaken the Lord, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they have turned away backward.
5
On what will you yet be struck more? All head is sickness and all heart is faint.
6
From the sole of the foot to the head, there is no soundness in it; wounds and bruises and open sores, they have not been closed or bound up or softened with oil.
7
Your land is desolate, your cities are burned with fire, your soil is in front of you, strangers are eating it, and it is desolate like the overthrow of strangers.
8
And the remnant of the daughter of Zion will be like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut in a cucumber field, like a city besieged.
9
If not for the LORD of Hosts leaving us a few survivors, we would have been like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.
10
Hear the word of the Lord, you rulers of Sodom; listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah.
11
"Why to me is the multitude of your sacrifices? says the Lord. I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of well-fed beasts; I do not delight in the blood of bulls, lambs
12
For when you come to see my face, who has asked this from your hand, trampling my courts?
13
You shall not add to bringing a worthless offering; incense is an abomination to me. New moon and sabbath, calling an assembly, I cannot endure iniquity and solemn assembly.
14
Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them.
15
And when you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; even when you make many prayers, I will not hear; your hands are full of blood.
16
Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before My eyes; cease to do evil.
17
Learn well, seek justice, support the oppressed, judge the orphan, plead for the widow.
18
Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. If your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; if they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
19
If you will listen and obey, you will eat the good of the land.
20
And if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
21
How has the faithful city become a harlot? She was full of justice; righteousness dwelt in her, but now murderers.
22
Your money was for the soot, and it was mixed in the waters.
23
Your rulers are rebellious and companions of thieves; everyone loves a bribe and pursues gifts. They do not judge the orphan, and the dispute of the widow they do not come near.
24
Therefore, thus says the Lord God of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: Woe, I will take vengeance on my adversaries and I will avenge myself on my enemies.
25
And I will return my hand upon you and will refine your dross, and I will remove all your alloy.
26
And I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning; afterward you will be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.
27
Zion shall be redeemed by justice, and those who return to her by righteousness.
28
And the breaking of sinners and transgressors together, and those who forsake Yahweh shall be consumed.
29
For you will be ashamed of the oaks that you desired, and you will be disgraced by the gardens that you chose.
30
For you will be like a garden that has no water.
31
And it will be the fortress for the youth, and its effect will be for the spark, and they will burn together, and there is no extinguisher.
