King James Version

Isaiah • Chapter 19

1 The burden concerning Egypt: Behold, the Lord rides on a swift cloud and comes to Egypt; and the idols of Egypt will tremble at His presence, and the heart of Egypt will melt within it. 2 And I will set Egypt against Egypt, and they will fight, each man against his brother, and each man against his neighbor, city against city, kingdom against kingdom. 3 And the spirit of Egypt will become confused within it, and its counsel will be like a spirit, and they will consult the idols and the necromancers and the mediums and the wizards. 4 And I will bring Egypt under the hand of harsh lords, and a mighty king shall rule over them, says the Lord of hosts. 5 And they will drink water from the sea, and the river will dry up and become parched. 6 And the rivers have become desolate, and the waterways of the fortress have dried up; the reeds and the rushes have withered. 7 Wastes upon the river, at the mouth of the river, and all that the river produces shall dry up, shall be swept away, and there shall be none. 8 And we, the fishermen, and all who cast into the river, were wise, and those who spread a net over the surface of the waters were distressed. 9 And the workers of flax were ashamed, and the weavers of white linen. 10 And they will be crushed, all who make a profit from the soul's distress. 11 But the foolish leaders of Zoan, the wise counselors of Pharaoh, have given a foolish counsel; how can you say to Pharaoh, "I am a son of wise men, a son of ancient kings"? 12 Where are your wise men, that they may tell you, and let them know what the Lord of hosts has advised concerning Egypt? 13 The princes of Zoan have been foolish; the princes of Noph have deceived Egypt, they have led astray the cornerstones. 14 The LORD has mixed within her a spirit of confusion and they have caused Egypt to stagger in all its deeds like a drunken man staggers in his vomit. 15 And there shall not be for Egypt a work that one will do, head and tail, palm and rush. 16 In that day Egypt will be like women, and it will tremble and be afraid because of the waving of the hand of the LORD of Hosts that He waves over it. 17 And the land of Judah will be like Egypt for all that he mentions to me; he will fear before the counsel of the Lord of Hosts, which he has advised against me. 18 In that day, there will be five cities in the land of Egypt speaking the language of Canaan and swearing allegiance to the Lord of Hosts; the city of destruction will be called one. 19 In that day there shall be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a standing stone by its border to the Lord. 20 And it shall be for a sign and for a witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt, for they will cry out to the Lord because of the oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a great one, and He will deliver them. 21 And the LORD will be made known to Egypt, and Egypt will know the LORD on that day, and they will serve a sacrifice and a offering, and they will make a vow to the LORD and fulfill it. 22 And the LORD struck Egypt, struck and healed, and they returned to the LORD and he was entreated for them and healed them. 23 In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and Assyria will come into Egypt, and Egypt into Assyria, and Egypt will serve Assyria. 24 In that day Israel will be a third with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth. 25 Blessed is my people Egypt and the work of my hands Assyria and my inheritance Israel, says the Lord of Hosts.
