King James Version

Isaiah • Chapter 50

1 Thus says the Lord: Where is the certificate of divorce of your mother, whom I sent away? Or which of my creditors is it to whom I sold you? Behold, for your iniquities you were sold, and for your transgressions your mother was sent away. 2 Why have I come, and there is no one? I called, and there is no answer. Is my hand too short for Redemption? Or do I have no strength to save? Behold, by my rebuke I dry up the sea; I make rivers a wilderness; their fish stink, because there are no waters, and they die of thirst. 3 "Do not clothe the heavens with darkness and do not put on a garment of sackcloth." 4 My Lord, Yahweh has given to me a tongue of the learned, to know how to sustain the weary with a word; He awakens morning by morning, He awakens my ear to listen as the learned. 5 My Lord, Yahweh, has opened my ear, and I did not rebel; I did not turn back. 6 I have given my back to those who strike and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I have not hidden my face from disgrace and spitting. 7 And the Lord Yahweh will help me; therefore, I will not be ashamed. Therefore, I have set my face like flint, and I know that I will not be put to shame. 8 The righteous is near; who will contend with me? Let us stand together; who is my accuser? Let him come near to me. 9 Behold, the Lord will help me; who will condemn me? Behold, all of them will wear out like a garment; the moth will eat them. 10 Who among you fears the Lord, listening to the voice of His servant, who walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God. 11 Behold, all of you who kindle fire, who encircle brands, walk in the light of your fire and in the brands you have kindled; this is what you shall have from My hand: you shall lie down in sorrow.
