King James Version

Jeremiah • Chapter 33

1 And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time while he was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, saying. 2 Thus says the Lord, the Creator of it, the Lord who formed it to prepare it, the Lord is His name. 3 Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great things and hidden things that you do not know. 4 For thus says the LORD God of Israel concerning the houses of this city and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah which are broken down to make a defense against the siege works and against the sword. 5 They are coming to fight against the Chaldeans and to kill the dead bodies of the men whom I struck in my anger and in my fury, and for whom I hid my face from this city because of all their wickedness. 6 Behold, I will bring to her a long healing and I will heal them, and I will give them a crown of peace and truth. 7 And I will restore the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel, and I will rebuild them as at first. 8 And I will cleanse them from all their sins with which they have sinned against Me, and I will forgive all their iniquities with which they have sinned against Me and which they have transgressed against Me. 9 And it shall be for me for a name of joy, for praise and for glory to all the nations of the earth who will hear of all the good that I do for it, and they shall fear and tremble because of all the good and because of all the peace that I do for it. 10 Thus says the Lord: "Again there will be heard in this place of which you say, 'It is desolate, without man and without animal,' in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without man, without inhabitant, and without animal." 11 The voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those saying, "Give thanks to the LORD of hosts, for the LORD is good, for His mercy endures forever," brings a thankfulness to the house of the LORD, for He will restore the fortunes of the land as at first, says the LORD. 12 Thus says the LORD of Hosts: Again there shall be in this place, which is waste, without man and without beast, and in all its cities a dwelling place of shepherds resting flocks. 13 In the cities of the mountain, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the Negev, and in the land of Benjamin, and around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, still the flock will pass by the hands of its overseer, says the Lord. 14 Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, and I will fulfill the good word that I spoke concerning the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah. 15 In those days and at that time, I will cause a righteous branch to sprout for David, and he will execute judgment and righteousness in the land. 16 In those days Judah and Jerusalem will be saved, and this will be what they call her: The Lord Our Righteousness. 17 For thus says the Lord, "There shall not be cut off for David a man sitting on the throne of the house of Israel." 18 And for the priests, the Levites, a man shall not be cut off from before Me, who offers a burnt offering and brings a grain offering and makes a sacrifice all the days. 19 And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying. 20 Thus says the LORD: If you break my covenant today and my covenant of the night, so that there will not be day and night in their time... 21 I will also establish My covenant with David My servant, to be his son as king on his throne, and with the Levites the priests who serve. 22 Which cannot be counted the host of heaven and cannot be measured the sand of the sea; so will I multiply the seed of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me. 23 And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying. 24 Have you not seen what this people said, saying, "The two families that the Lord chose among them, and He rejected them, and they will contend against My people that they should no longer be a nation before them"? 25 Thus says the Lord: If my covenant with day and night and the statutes of heaven and earth I had not established. 26 Also the seed of Jacob and David, my servants, I will not reject from taking of their offspring rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, for I will return and have compassion on them.
