King James Version
John • Chapter 9
1
And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.
2
And his disciples asked him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
3
Jesus answered, "Neither this man sinned nor his parents, but that the works of God might be revealed in him."
4
We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night comes when no one can work.
5
When I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
6
Saying these things, he spat on the ground and made clay from the spittle, and he anointed the clay on his eyes.
7
And he said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is translated Sent)." So he went and washed, and he came back seeing.
8
So the neighbors and those who had seen him before that he was a beggar were saying, "Is this not the one who was sitting and begging?"
9
Some were saying that this is he; others were saying, "No, but he is like him." That one was saying, "I am."
10
They said to him, "How were your eyes opened?"
11
He answered, "The man called Jesus made mud and anointed my eyes and said to me, 'Go to the Pool of Siloam and wash.' So I went and washed, and I gained my sight."
12
And they said to him, “Where is that one?” He says, “I do not know.”
13
They are bringing him to the Pharisees, the once blind man.
14
And it was a Sabbath on which day Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.
15
Again, therefore, the Pharisees asked him how he received his sight. But he said to them, "He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and now I see."
16
Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God because he does not keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a sinner do such signs?" And there was division among them.
17
They said to the blind man again, "What do you say about him, since he opened your eyes?" He said that he is a prophet.
18
Therefore, the Jews did not believe about him that he was blind and received sight, until they called the parents of the one who had received sight.
19
And they asked them, saying: Is this your son, whom you say was born blind? How then does he now see?
20
His parents answered and said, "We know that this is our son and that he was born blind."
21
But how he now sees, we do not know, or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him; he is of age, he will speak for himself.
22
His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone should confess him as Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.
23
Therefore, his parents said, "He is of age; ask him."
24
Therefore they called the man who had been blind a second time and said to him, "Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner."
25
He answered, "If he is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I know, that though I was blind, now I see."
26
I said to him, "What has he done to you? How did he open your eyes?"
27
He answered them, “I already told you and you did not listen; why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?”
28
They insulted him and said: "You are a disciple of that one, but we are disciples of Moses."
29
We know that God spoke to Moses, but we do not know where this man is from.
30
The man answered and said to them, "In this, the marvelous thing is that you do not know where he is from, and he opened my eyes."
31
We know that God does not hear sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears that one.
32
From ancient times it has not been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a blind person born that way.
33
If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.
34
They answered and said to him, "You were entirely born in sins, and are you teaching us?" And they cast him out.
35
Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"
36
He answered and said, "And who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?"
37
Jesus said to him, "And you have seen him, and the one speaking with you is he."
38
And he said, "I believe, Lord"; and he worshiped him.
39
And Jesus said: I have come into this world for judgment, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind.
40
The ones with him, having heard these things from the Pharisees, said to him: "Are we also blind?"
41
Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see'; your sin remains."
