1 And the LORD appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. 2 And Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish. 3 And I said, "I called out from my distress to the Lord, and He answered me; from the belly of Sheol I cried out, 'You heard my voice.'" 4 And you cast me into the depths of the heart of the seas, and the river surrounded me; all your breakers and your waves passed over me. 5 And I said, "I have driven them away from before your eyes; yet I will continue to look at your holy temple." 6 Waters have encompassed me to the soul; the deep surrounds me; weeds are wrapped around my head. 7 To the ends of the mountains I have descended to the earth in its breadth for my sake forever, and you have raised from the pit my life, O Yahweh my God. 8 When my soul is wrapped in distress, I remember Yahweh, and my prayer comes to You, into Your holy temple. 9 Those who keep worthless things will forsake mercy. 10 And I with a voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to You; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation is of the Lord.
