King James Version
Mark • Chapter 15
1
And immediately in the morning, the chief priests with the elders and scribes and all the council made a decision, and they bound Jesus and led him away and handed him over to Pilate.
2
And Pilate asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" But he answered him, "You say so."
3
And the chief priests accused him many things.
4
But Pilate again asked him, saying, "Are you not answering anything? Look at how many things they are accusing you of."
5
But Jesus no longer answered anything, so that Pilate was amazed.
6
But during the feast, he released to them one prisoner whom they were asking for.
7
And there was Barabbas, who was called, bound with the insurrectionists, who had committed murder in the uprising.
8
And when the crowd ascended, they began to ask as he had done for them.
9
But Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you want me to release for you the king of the Jews?"
10
For he knew that it was because of envy that the chief priests had handed him over.
11
But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas rather than them.
12
But Pilate, answering again, said to them, "What then do you want me to do with the one you call the king of the Jews?"
13
And they again cried out: Crucify him.
14
But Pilate said to them, "What evil has he done?" But they cried out more earnestly, "Crucify him!"
15
But Pilate, wishing to do what pleased the crowd, released to them Barabbas, and handed over Jesus after flogging him to be crucified.
16
And the soldiers led him inside the courtyard, which is the praetorium, and they called together the whole battalion.
17
And they put on him a purple robe and wove a crown of thorns and placed it on him.
18
And they began to greet him: Hail, King of the Jews.
19
And they struck his head with a reed and spat on him, and kneeling down, they worshiped him.
20
And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him.
21
And they compelled a certain Simon of Cyrene, coming from the countryside, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.
22
And they bring him to the place called Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull.
23
And they were giving him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.
24
And they crucified him and divided his garments, casting lots for them to see who would take what.
25
It was the third hour, and they crucified him.
26
And the inscription of his charge was written: The King of the Jews.
27
And with him they crucify two thieves, one on the right and one on the left of him.
28
And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.
29
And those who were passing by blasphemed him, shaking their heads and saying, "Woe to the one who destroys the temple and builds it in three days,"
30
Save yourself by coming down from the cross.
31
Likewise, the chief priests mockingly spoke to one another with the scribes, saying, "He saved others; he cannot save himself."
32
The Christ, the King of Israel, let him come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe. And those who were crucified with him reviled him.
33
And when the sixth hour had come, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour.
34
And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which is translated, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
35
And some of those standing by, having heard, said: "Behold, he is calling Elijah."
36
And someone ran and filled a sponge with vinegar, put it on a branch, and gave him to drink, saying, "Let us see if Elijah comes to take him down."
37
And Jesus, having cried out with a loud voice, breathed out his last.
38
And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
39
And when the centurion who was standing opposite saw that he thus breathed out his last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God."
40
And there were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome.
41
And those who were with him in Galilee followed him and ministered to him, and many others who had gone up with him to Jerusalem.
42
And already when evening had come, since it was the preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath,
43
Joseph, who was from Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who also himself was expecting the kingdom of God, boldly went in to Pilate and requested the body of Jesus.
44
But Pilate wondered if he was already dead, and having summoned the centurion, he asked him if he had died some time ago.
45
And knowing from the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
46
And having bought a linen cloth, he took him down and wrapped him in the linen cloth and placed him in a tomb that was hewn out of rock, and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.
47
But Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Joseph, were looking where he was laid.
