King James Version
Matthew • Chapter 15
1
Then the Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem, saying.
2
Why do your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.
3
But he answered and said to them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?"
4
For God said: Honor your father and your mother, and he who speaks evil of father or mother shall surely be put to death.
5
But you say: Whoever says to his father or mother, "A gift that you may benefit from me,"
6
He will not honor his father; and you have made void the word of God because of your tradition.
7
Hypocrites, Isaiah prophesied well about you, saying:
8
This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
9
But in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.
10
And having called the crowd, he said to them: "Listen and understand."
11
It is not what enters the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.
12
Then the disciples came to him, saying, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?"
13
But he answered, "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted."
14
Let them be; they are blind guides of the blind. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.
15
And Peter answered and said to him, "Explain to us this parable."
16
And he said, "How is it that you are without understanding?"
17
Do you not understand that everything entering the mouth goes into the belly and is cast out into the latrine?
18
But what comes out of the mouth originates from the heart, and those things defile a person.
19
For from the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false testimonies, blasphemies.
20
These are the things that are common to man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not make man common.
21
And having gone out from there, Jesus withdrew to the regions of Tyre and Sidon.
22
And behold, a woman of Canaan who came out from those borders was crying out, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely demon-possessed."
23
But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and asked him, saying, "Send her away, for she is crying out after us."
24
But he answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
25
And she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me."
26
But he answered and said, "It is not good to take the bread of the children and throw it to the little dogs."
27
And she said, "Yes, lord, for even the dogs eat from the crumbs that fall from their masters' table."
28
Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith; let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.
29
And moving from there, Jesus came by the Sea of Galilee, and going up to the mountain, he sat there.
30
And many crowds came to him, bringing with them the mute, the blind, the lame, the crippled, and many others, and they laid them at his feet, and he healed them.
31
So the crowd was amazed, seeing the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.
32
But Jesus, calling his disciples, said: I have compassion for the crowd, because they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.
33
And his disciples said to him, "Where are we to get enough bread in the wilderness to satisfy such a great crowd?"
34
And Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven, and a few small fish."
35
And having instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground.
36
He took the seven loaves and the fish, and giving thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples to the crowds.
37
And they all ate and were satisfied, and they took up the remainder of the fragments, seven baskets full.
38
And those who were eating were four thousand men, besides women and children.
39
And having dismissed the crowds, he went up into the boat and came to the region of Magadan.
