King James Version
Matthew • Chapter 18
1
At that hour, the disciples approached Jesus, saying, "Who then is greater in the kingdom of heaven?"
2
And having called a child, he set it in the midst of them.
3
And he said: Truly I say to you, unless you turn and become like the children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
4
Whoever therefore humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5
And whoever receives one such child in my name, receives me.
6
Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
7
Woe to the world because of offenses; for it is necessary that offenses come, but woe to the man through whom the offense comes.
8
If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away from you; it is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire.
9
And if your eye causes you to stumble, tear it out and throw it away from you; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than to be thrown into hell with two eyes.
10
See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels always look upon the face of my Father who is in heaven.
11
For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
12
What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go to seek the one that went astray?
13
And if it happens to find it, I tell you truly that it rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that have not gone astray.
14
Thus, it is not the will before your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
15
If your brother sins against you, go and rebuke him between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
16
But if he does not listen, take one or two more with you, so that every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.
17
But if he does not listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he also does not listen to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
18
Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
19
Again, truly I say to you that if two of you agree on earth about any matter for which they ask, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven.
20
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
21
Then Peter approached him and said, "Lord, how many times shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?"
22
Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven."
23
For this reason, the kingdom of heaven is likened to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants.
24
As he was beginning to settle accounts, one who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him.
25
But since he had nothing to give, the Lord commanded that he be sold, along with his wife and children and everything he has, and be paid back.
26
So the servant, falling down, worshiped him, saying, "Be patient with me, and I will pay you everything."
27
The lord of that servant, moved with compassion, released him and forgave him the loan.
28
And the servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, and grabbing him, he throttled him, saying, "Pay back whatever you owe."
29
Therefore, the fellow servant fell down and begged him, saying, "Be patient with me, and I will pay you back."
30
But he was unwilling, and going away, he threw him into prison until he should pay the debt.
31
Therefore, when his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed, and going to their lord, they reported to him all that had taken place.
32
Then his master called him and said to him, "Evil servant, I forgave you all that debt because you begged me."
33
"Shouldn't you also have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?"
34
And being angry, his lord delivered him to the tormentors until he should pay all that was owed.
35
So also will my heavenly Father do to you if each of you does not forgive his brother from your hearts.
