King James Version

Numbers • Chapter 18

1 And the Lord said to Aaron, "You and your sons and your father’s house with you shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary, and you and your sons with you shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood." 2 And also with your brother Levi, the tribe of your father, let them come near to you, and they shall minister to you, and you and your sons with you shall be before the tent of the testimony. 3 And they shall guard your charge and the charge of all the tent, but they shall not come near the holy utensils and the altar, so that they do not die; both they and you. 4 And they shall join you and keep the charge of the tent of meeting for all the service of the tent, and no stranger shall draw near to you. 5 And you shall keep the charge of the holy place and the charge of the altar, and there shall no longer be wrath upon the children of Israel. 6 And I, behold, I have taken your brothers the Levites from among the children of Israel as a gift given to the Lord to do the work of the Tent of Meeting. 7 And you and your sons shall keep your priesthood for all that pertains to the altar and to the veil, and you shall serve; I give your priesthood to you as a gift, but the outsider who approaches shall be put to death. 8 And the LORD spoke to Aaron, "Indeed, I have given to you the duty of the offerings of the holy things of the people of Israel; I have given them to you as a portion and to your sons as a perpetual statute." 9 This shall be for you from the most holy part of the offerings, from the fire; every sacrifice for all your grain offerings, and for all your sin offerings, and for all your guilt offerings, which they shall bring to you; it is the most holy thing to you and to your sons. 10 In the holy of holies you shall eat it; every male may eat it; it shall be holy to you. 11 And this is your offering of gifts from all the wave offerings of the children of Israel; to you I have given them and to your sons and your daughters with you, as a perpetual statute; every clean person in your house may eat of it. 12 All the fat of the olive and all the fat of the new wine and grain, the first of them, which they will give to the LORD, I have given to you. 13 The firstborn of all that are in their land, which they bring to the Lord for you, shall be yours; every clean one in your house shall eat it. 14 Every devoted thing in Israel shall be yours. 15 Every firstborn of the womb for all flesh that they shall bring to the LORD, from man and from beast, shall be yours; only the firstborn you shall redeem of man and the firstborn of the unclean beast you shall redeem. 16 And you shall redeem the firstborn of a month for your value in five shekels of the holy shekel, which is twenty gerahs. 17 Only a firstborn of an ox or a firstborn of a sheep or a firstborn of a goat you shall not redeem; they are holy. Their blood you shall sprinkle on the altar, and their fat you shall burn as an offering by fire, a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 18 And in their flesh it shall be for you like the wave offering and like the right thigh for you shall be. 19 All the offerings of the holy things that the children of Israel shall lift up to the LORD, I have given to you and to your sons and your daughters with you as a statute forever; it is a covenant of salt forever before the LORD for you and for your descendants with you. 20 And the Lord said to Aaron, "In their land you shall not inherit, and a portion shall not be to you among them; I am your portion and your inheritance among the children of Israel." 21 And to the descendants of Levi, behold, I have given all the tithes in Israel as an inheritance instead of their service which they perform, the service of the tent of meeting. 22 And the children of Israel shall no longer come near the tent of meeting to bear sin leading to death. 23 And the Levite shall serve in the service of the tent of meeting, and they shall bear their sin, a statute forever for your generations, and among the children of Israel they shall not inherit a portion. 24 For I have given the tithe of the children of Israel, which they elevate to the Lord, as a gift to the Levites for an inheritance; therefore I said to them that among the children of Israel they shall not inherit an inheritance. 25 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying. 26 And to the Levites you shall speak and say to them, "When you take from the children of Israel the tithe that I have given to you from their inheritance, then you shall raise from it a contribution to the LORD, a tithe from the tithe." 27 And it will be considered to you as your contribution, like grain from the threshing floor and like fullness from the winepress. 28 Thus you shall also raise a contribution to the Lord from all your tithes that you receive from the children of Israel, and you shall give from it the Lord's contribution to Aaron the priest. 29 From all your gifts, you shall lift up every offering to the Lord from all its fat, from the sanctuary. 30 And you shall say to them, "When you lift up your best offerings from us, it shall be accounted to the Levites as the produce of the threshing floor and as the produce of the winepress." 31 And you shall eat it in all places, you and your households, for it is your compensation in place of your service in the Tent of Meeting. 32 And you shall not lift up sin upon yourselves by raising your hands against the fat from among us, and you shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, and you shall not die.
