King James Version
Philippians • Chapter 1
1
Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the overseers and deacons.
2
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3
I thank my God for all your remembrance.
4
Always in every request of mine for all of you, making the request with joy,
5
for your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,
6
Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
7
As it is right for me to think this about all of you, because I have you in my heart, both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you are all partakers of my Grace.
8
For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
9
And this I pray, that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and all discernment,
10
to test you concerning the things that differ, so that you may be sincere and blameless for the day of Christ.
11
Filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.
12
But I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has rather turned out for the advancement of the gospel.
13
so that my chains may be manifest in Christ in all the praetorium and to all the rest,
14
And most of the brothers, having confidence in the Lord because of my imprisonment, are daring more than ever to speak the word without fear.
15
Some indeed preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.
16
Some indeed out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel,
17
Some are proclaiming Christ out of rivalry, not sincerely, thinking to stir up trouble for my chains.
18
For what is it? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in this I rejoice; yes, and I will rejoice.
19
For I know that this will turn out for my salvation through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
20
According to my eager expectation and hope that I will not be ashamed in anything, but with all boldness, as always, now Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
21
For me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
22
But if living in the flesh, this is for me a fruit of labor— and what I will choose I do not know.
23
I am stretched between the two, having the desire to depart and to be with Christ, for that is far better.
24
But to continue in the flesh is more necessary for you.
25
And being confident of this, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith,
26
So that your boast may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my coming again to you.
27
Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or whether I am absent, I may hear about you, that you stand firm in one spirit, striving together with one soul for the faith of the gospel.
28
And being not shaken in anything by those opposing (which is to them a sign of destruction, but to you of salvation, and this from God,
29
For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him but also to suffer for his sake.
30
Having the same struggle as you saw in me and now hear in me.
