Titus • Chapter 1
1
Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect and the knowledge of the truth that is according to godliness.
2
In hope of eternal life, which the truthful God promised before eternal times.
3
He revealed His word in His own time, through the preaching with which I was entrusted by the command of our Savior God.

To Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

For this reason I left you in Crete, that you might put what remains in order and appoint elders in every city, as I directed you.
6
If anyone is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children, not in accusation of debauchery or unruly.
7
For the bishop must be blameless as God's steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain,

but hospitable, loving good, sensible, just, holy, self-controlled,

Holding fast to the faithful word according to the teaching, that he may be able both to exhort in the sound doctrine and to rebuke those who contradict.

For there are many who are insubordinate, idle talkers, and deceivers, especially those from the circumcision.

Those whom it is necessary to silence, who are upsetting whole households by teaching what they ought not for the sake of dishonest gain.

A certain one of them, their own prophet, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons."

This testimony is true. For this reason, rebuke them sharply, so that they may be sound in the faith.

not paying attention to Jewish myths and commands of men who turn away from the truth.

To the pure, all things are pure; but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and conscience are defiled.
16
They profess to know God, but by their works they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.
