King James Version

Zechariah • Chapter 11

1 Open, O Lebanon, your doors, and let fire consume your cedars. 2 Cry out, O fir tree, for the cedar has fallen, the mighty ones are destroyed. Wail, O oaks of Bashan, for the forest of the vintage has come down. 3 The voice of the howling of the shepherds, for their glory has been devastated; the voice of the roar of young lions, for the pride of the Jordan has been devastated. 4 Thus said the LORD, your God: Shepherd the flock of the slaughter. 5 Those who acquire them shall be killed and not be guilty, and those who sell them shall say, "Blessed is the Lord," and their shepherds shall not have pity on them. 6 For I will no longer spare the inhabitants of the land, declares the LORD, and behold, I am bringing the man, each by the hand of his neighbor and by the hand of his king, and they shall strike the land, and I will not deliver them from their hand. 7 And I will shepherd the flock of the slaughter; therefore, I took two staffs: one I called Favor and the other I called Uniting, and I shepherded the flock. 8 And I will make an end of the three shepherds in one month, and my soul was weary of them, and their soul also was weary in me. 9 And I said, "I will not see you; the dead will die, and the vanished will be vanished, and the remaining ones shall eat the flesh of their friend." 10 And I took my staff, No'am, and I broke it to annul my covenant that I made with all the nations. 11 And it was broken on that day, and the poor of the flock who were watching me knew that it was the word of the Lord. 12 And I said to them, "If it is good in your eyes, give me my wages, but if not, refrain." And they weighed out my wages, thirty pieces of silver. 13 And the LORD said to me, "Throw it to the potter, the majestic price at which I was valued by them." So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD to the potter. 14 And I will break my second staff to annul the brotherhood between Judah and Israel. 15 And the LORD said to me, "Again take for yourself a shepherd's instrument." 16 For behold, I am raising a shepherd in the land; the lost ones will not be sought, the young man will not be asked for, the broken ones will not be healed, the standing ones will not be held up, and the flesh of the creation will eat, and their hooves will be torn apart. 17 Woe to the shepherds, to the idols who abandon the flock! A sword is upon their arm and upon the right eye; their arm shall dry up and their right eye shall become dim.
