And Israel joined himself unto Baal-peor: and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.

The Lord told Moses, “Arrest all the Israelite leaders and kill them before the Lord where everyone can see in order to turn the Lord's furious anger away from the people.”

In this way, Israel joined in the worship of Baal of Peor, causing the LORD’s anger to blaze against his people.
