King James Version
Amos • Chapter 7
1
Thus the Lord showed me, and behold, a basket of ripe fruit. And behold, the ripe fruit after the king's harvest.
2
And it will be that if he has finished eating the grass of the land, and I will say, "O Lord, Yahweh, please forgive, for who will rise up, Jacob, since he is small?"
3
The Lord repented about this; it shall not be, says the Lord.
4
Thus the Lord showed me, and behold, the Lord is calling to the sea in fire, and it consumes the great deep and eats the portion.
5
And I said, "Lord Jehovah, please cease; for who will rise up, Jacob, since he is small."
6
The LORD relented concerning this; it also shall not be. Thus says the Lord GOD.
7
Thus He showed me, and behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made of plumb line, and in His hand a plumb line.
8
And the Lord said to me, "What do you see, Amos?" And I said, "A plumb line." And the Lord said, "Behold, I am setting a plumb line in the midst of my people Israel; I will not add any more to pass by them."
9
And we will be saved from the deaths; Isaac will laugh, and the sanctuaries of Israel will be devastated, and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
10
And Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, "Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is not able to bear all his words."
11
For thus said Amos: "By the sword shall Jeroboam die, and Israel shall surely go into exile from its land."
12
And Amaziah said to Amos, "Flee away to the land of Judah, and eat bread there, and prophesy there."
13
And at Bethel you shall no longer prophesy, for it is a king's sanctuary and it is a royal palace.
14
And Amos answered and said to Amaziah, “I am no prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet, for I am a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore trees.”
15
And the LORD took me from following the flock, and the LORD said to me, "Go, prophesy to my people Israel."
16
And now hear the word of the Lord: you say, "Do not prophesy against Israel, and do not preach against the house of Isaac."
17
Therefore, thus says Yahweh: Your wife will be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword, and your land will be divided by a line, and you will die in an unclean land, and Israel will be exiled from its land.
