Ephesians • Chapter 2

1 And you being dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit now working in the sons of disobedience; 3 In which we all once walked according to the desires of our flesh, doing the wishes of the flesh and of the thoughts, and we were by nature children of wrath, just like the others. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, 5 And when we were dead in our transgressions, he made us alive together with Christ— by Grace you have been saved— 6 And He raised us up and seated us in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. 7 So that he might demonstrate in the coming ages the surpassing wealth of his Grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by Grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 Not from works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. 11 Therefore remember that at one time you, the Gentiles in the flesh, were called uncircumcised by those called the circumcision made in the flesh by hands, 12 For you were at that time without Christ, alienated from the citizenship of Israel and strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 Now, in Christ Jesus, you who were once far away have become near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has broken down the wall of hostility in his flesh, 15 Abolishing the law of commandments in ordinances, to create the two into one new man, making peace. 16 And he will reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, having put to death the hostility in himself. 17 And coming, he proclaimed peace to you who are far away and peace to those who are near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 Therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God. 20 Being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone, 21 In which all the building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 In whom you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
