King James Version

1 My brothers, do not have the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. 2 For if a man with gold rings enters your synagogue in fine clothing, and a poor man in filthy clothing also enters, 3 "Look upon the one wearing the splendid garment and say, 'You sit here well,' and to the poor one say, 'You stand or sit there under my footstool.'" 4 Are you not divided among yourselves and have become judges of evil thoughts? 5 Listen, my beloved brothers. Has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and themselves drag you into courts? 7 Do they not themselves blaspheme the beautiful name that was called upon you? 8 If indeed you fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well; 9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law but stumbles in one point has become guilty of all. 11 For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but you murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of freedom. 13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy; mercy boasts over judgment. 14 What benefit is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister are naked and lacking the daily food, 16 But if someone among you says to them, "Go in peace, be warm and be filled," yet you do not give them the necessities of the body, what is the benefit? 17 Thus also faith, if it does not have works, is dead in itself. 18 But someone will say: You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith without works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well; even the demons believe and shudder. 20 Do you want to know, O empty man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Abraham our father was not justified by works, having offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was working together with his works, and from the works, faith was made perfect. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says: Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness, and he was called a friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 Likewise, Rahab the harlot was not justified by works, having received the spies and sent them out by another way. 26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
