King James Version
Nahum • Chapter 1
1
The burden of Nineveh: the book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
2
A jealous and avenging God is the Lord; the Lord is avenging and full of wrath; the Lord takes vengeance on His adversaries and reserves wrath for His enemies.
3
The LORD is slow to anger and great in power; He will not clear the guilty. The LORD's way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.
4
He rebuked the sea, and it dried up, and all the rivers were devastated; Bashan and Carmel were afflicted, and the flower of Lebanon was afflicted.
5
The mountains trembled before Him and the hills shook, and the earth was lifted up from before Him, and the world and all its inhabitants.
6
Before His wrath, who can stand? And who can rise up in His fierce anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken into pieces before Him.
7
The Lord is good as a refuge in times of trouble, and He knows those who take refuge in Him.
8
In the rush, all will be done in its place, and my enemies will chase darkness.
9
What do you think about the LORD? He does all; trouble will not arise twice.
10
For until the tangled thorns and the brambles were consumed, like dry stubble fully.
11
From you has come one who thinks evil against the Lord, a counselor of worthlessness.
12
Thus says the LORD: If they are complete and many, and if they are gathered and passed over, I will not answer you anymore.
13
And now I will break your rod off of you and I will untie your bindings.
14
And the LORD commanded concerning you: You shall not be sowed any more from your name; from the house of your God I will cut off the carved image and the molten image; I will make your grave; for you are vile.
15
Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
