King James Version
1 Timothy • Chapter 1
1
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope.
2
To Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3
As I urged you to remain in Ephesus while going to Macedonia, so that you might charge some not to teach false doctrines.
4
nor to pay attention to endless myths and genealogies, which provide questions rather than the stewardship of God that is in faith—
5
But the aim of the commandment is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith.
6
Some of whom, having missed the mark, turned aside to vain discussion.
7
Wishing to be law teachers, neither understanding what they say nor concerning themselves with what they affirm.
8
But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully.
9
Knowing this, that the law is not laid down for the righteous, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers,
10
fornicators, sodomites, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and if there is anything else that opposes sound teaching,
11
According to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which I was entrusted with.
12
I give thanks to the one who strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he deemed me faithful, appointing me to the ministry.
13
The previously blasphemous, persecutor, and insolent; but I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief.
14
But the Grace of our Lord overflowed with faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
15
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.
16
But for this reason I was shown mercy, that in me first Christ Jesus might demonstrate all patience, as a pattern for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life.
17
To the King of the ages, the immortal, the invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
18
I am entrusting this command to you, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made about you, that you may wage the good warfare in them.
19
Holding faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected have made shipwreck concerning the faith.
20
Of these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I handed over to Satan so that they may be taught not to blaspheme.
