King James Version

1 Timothy • Chapter 6

1 Let those who are under the yoke as slaves regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be blasphemed. 2 Let those who have believing masters not despise them, because they are brothers; but rather let them serve them more, because they are faithful and beloved, those who partake of the benefit. Teach and encourage these things. 3 If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the healthy words of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the teaching that is according to godliness, 4 he is sick, knowing nothing, but sick about questions and disputes, from which come envy, strife, slander, wicked suspicions, 5 The reasoning of corrupt men is corrupted and they are deprived of the truth, thinking that godliness is a means of gain. 6 But great gain is godliness with contentment. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, because we are not able to bring anything out. 8 But having food and clothing, we will be content with these. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evils, which some longing for have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. 11 But you, O man of God, flee these things; pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold of eternal life, to which you were called and have confessed the good confession before many witnesses. 13 I charge you in the presence of God who gives life to all things and of Christ Jesus who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 to keep you blameless and spotless until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 He will show in his own time the blessed and only ruler, the king of those who rule and lord of those who lord. 16 The only one having immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or is able to see; to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen. 17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous, to be charitable, 19 Storing up for themselves a good foundation for the future, that they may take hold of the truly life. 20 O Timothy, guard the deposit, avoiding the profane babble and contradictions of the falsely named knowledge, 21 Some have erred concerning the faith. The Grace [be] with you.
