King James Version

2 Kings • Chapter 6

1 And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, "Behold now, the place where we dwell in your presence is too cramped for us." 2 Let us go now to the Jordan, and we will take from there each man a log, and we will make a place for us there to dwell. And he said, "Go." 3 And one said, "Please, go with your servants." And he said, "I will go." 4 And they went with him, and they came to the Jordan, and they cut down the trees. 5 And it was that one fell the beam and the iron fell into the water, and he cried out and said, "Alas, my lord!" and he was Saul. 6 And the man of God said, "Where did it fall?" And he showed him the place. And he cut a stick and threw it there, and the iron floated. 7 And he said to you, and he sent his hand and took it. 8 And the king of Aram was fighting against Israel and he counseled with his servants, saying, "In such and such a place, ambush me." 9 And he sent a man of God to the king of Israel, saying, "Beware of passing through this place, for there the Arameans are coming down." 10 And the king of Israel sent to the place that the man of God said to him and warned him, and he took heed there; not once and not twice. 11 And the heart of the king of Aram was enraged because of this matter, and he called to his servants and said to them, "Will you not tell me who among us is for the king of Israel?" 12 And one of his servants said, "My lord the king, it is Elisha the prophet who is in Israel; he tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom." 13 And he said, "Come and see how he is, and I will send and take him," and it was told to him, saying, "Behold, he is in Dothan." 14 And he sent horses and chariots and a heavy army, and they came by night and surrounded the city. 15 And the servant of the man of God got up early and went out, and behold, an army surrounded the city with horses and chariots. And his young man said to him, "Alas, my lord, what shall we do?" 16 And he said, "Do not be afraid, for there are many with us than with them." 17 And Elisha prayed and said, "O Lord, please open his eyes," and the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18 And they came down to me, and Elisha prayed to the Lord and said, "Strike this people with blindness." And he struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. 19 And Elisha said to them, "This is not the way, and this is not the city; follow me, and I will bring you to the man you seek." And he led them to Samaria. 20 And it was when they came to Samaria, that Elisha said, "O Lord, open the eyes of these men that they may see." And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw, and behold, they were in the midst of Samaria. 21 And the king of Israel said to Elisha, "If I see him, I will strike him." 22 And he said, "Do not strike those whom you have taken captive with your sword and your bow; you shall set bread and water before them, and they shall eat and drink, and they shall go to their master." 23 And he made for them a great feast, and they ate and drank, and he sent them away, and they went to their masters, and the bands of Aram did not come again to the land of Israel. 24 And it came to pass after that, that Ben Hadad, king of Aram, gathered all his army and went up and besieged Samaria. 25 And there was a great famine in Samaria, and behold, they were in distress until the head of a donkey was sold for eighty shekels of silver, and a quarter of a kab of dove's dung was sold for five shekels of silver. 26 And it happened that the king of Israel was passing by the wall, and a woman cried out to him, saying, "Help, my lord, O king!" 27 And he said, "The Lord will not save you; from where will He save you? From the threshing floor or from the winepress?" 28 And the king said to her, "What is it?" And the woman said, "This woman said to me, 'Give your son so we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.'" 29 And I cooked my son, and we ate him. And I said to her, "Give me your son, and we will eat him today." And she hid her son. 30 And it was when the king heard the words of the woman that he tore his clothes, and he went over the wall, and the people saw, and behold, the sackcloth was on his flesh beneath. 31 And he said, "So may God do to me, and so may He add to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat stands on me today." 32 And Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him, and he sent a man from before him before the messenger came to him, and he said to the elders, "Did you see that this son of the murderer sent to remove my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door and bind him at the door. Is not the sound of my lord's feet behind him?" 33 While he was still speaking with them, behold, the angel came down to me and said, "Behold, this evil is from the Lord; why should I hope for the Lord any longer?"
