1 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was in my palace and flourishing in my kingdom. 2 I saw a dream and I was troubled, and my thoughts troubled me upon my bed; and the visions of my head frightened me. 3 And from me, give the interpretation to the dream to all the wise ones of Babylon that they may make known to me. 4 Then the Chaldean magicians, the soothsayers, and the astrologers said to me, "We cannot make known the interpretation to you." 5 And until another, before Daniel, whose name is Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and whose spirit of the holy gods is in him, and the dream before him, I spoke. 6 Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that no mystery is too difficult for you; reveal the vision of my dream that I saw and its interpretation. 7 And I saw visions of my head while on my bed, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great. 8 The tree will grow strong and its height will reach the heavens, and its vision will be for the end of all the earth. 9 Dust is good and her grapevine is great, and food for all beings beneath her; she will cast down a beast of the field, and in her branches shall dwell birds of the heavens, and from her will be fed all flesh. 10 I saw in visions of my head upon my bed, and behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from heaven. 11 Call with strength, and thus say, "Make great the tree and cut off its branches; shake off its leaves and scatter its fruits. Let the beasts flee from under it, and the birds from its branches." 12 But the root of his/her essence is in the earth, that which is abandoned, and in the bond of iron and serpent in the law of that which is cultivated, and in the dewy heavens it will be formed, along with the wildlife that shares in the grass of the earth. 13 A heart from man will change, and the heart of a beast will be given to it, and seven seasons will pass over it. 14 By the decree of the city of Pithgam and by the saying of the holy ones, until the word that they will know my life, that he reigns over me in the human kingdom, and for the one who will gather, he will give it and humble men will rise against it. 15 At that time, I had a dream; I saw that King Nebuchadnezzar and you, Belteshazzar, interpret the dream. All the wise men of my kingdom were not able to make its interpretation known to me, but you, because the spirit of the holy gods is in you. 16 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished for a brief time, and his thoughts alarmed him. The king spoke and said, "Belteshazzar, do not let the dream and its interpretation trouble you." Belteshazzar answered and said, "My lord, the dream is for those who hate you, and its interpretation is for your enemies." 17 A tree that you saw, which is great and strong and whose height reaches to the heavens and its vision to all the earth. 18 And her dust is fine, and her dew is abundant, and food for all beneath her will dwell the animals of the field, and in her branches the birds of the heavens will nest. 19 You are the king, who increases and strengthens, and your greatness is great, and your dominion is to the end of the earth. 20 And when the king saw a city and a holy one coming down from heaven, he said, "Grow, O tree, and be bound; its root is in the ground that is forsaken, and in iron and serpent in the congregation that is mighty, and in the dew of heaven let it be drenched; and with the beasts of the field let it be shared until seven seasons pass over it." 21 The interpretation of the matter is that the decree from on high is that which is set upon my lord the king. 22 And you will be driven away from men and with the beasts of the field you will dwell, and grass like oxen they will give to you, and the dew of heaven will be your shade, and seven times will pass over you until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever He will. 23 And they said to the one who establishes the root of your kingdom: You shall know that the heavens are in control. 24 Therefore, my king will judge concerning you and your sins and your transgressions in righteousness; your iniquities will be in the mountain of the judge; behold, they will be prolonged for your tranquility. 25 All the message against Nebuchadnezzar, king. 26 On the thirteenth of the month, there was a procession towards the palace of the king of Babylon. 27 The king answered and said, "Isn't this the great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?" 28 Once again, in the presence of the king, a voice from Heaven fell upon you, saying, "Nebuchadnezzar, your kingdom has departed from you." 29 And from men you shall be driven away, and with the beasts of the field your dwelling shall be; you shall be given grass to eat like oxen, and seven times shall pass over you until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and that He gives it to whom He wills. 30 In that hour, a word was spoken about Nebuchadnezzar and among the people it was troubling, and the grass like the plantations would be eaten, and from the dew of heaven, it would be watered until its hair became like many eagles, and its foliage like the birds. 31 And at the end of my days, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever, for His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom endures from generation to generation. 32 And all the inhabitants of the earth are counted, and like the army of heaven, the inhabitants of the earth are; and there is no one who can raise a hand against it and say to it, "What have you done?" 33 In time, when they come, my greatness will be established, and my glory will shine, and my word will be numerous, and my great ones will call out, and upon my kingdom, it will be established, and abundance will be added for me. 34 Now, I Nebuchadnezzar praise and exalt and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are truth and His ways justice; and those who walk in pride He is able to humble. 35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? 36 At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me. 37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
