1 And the apostles and the brothers who were in Judea heard that the nations also received the word of God. 2 But when Peter went up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision contended with him. 3 Saying that you entered to men having uncircumcision and ate with them. 4 And Peter, having begun, was explaining to them in order, saying: 5 I was in the city of Joppa praying and I saw in a trance a vision, something like a great sheet descending, held by four corners from heaven, and it came down to me. 6 Into which, having gazed, I understood and saw the four-footed creatures of the earth and the wild animals and the reptiles and the birds of heaven. 7 And I heard a voice saying to me: "Arise, Peter, kill and eat." 8 And I said: By no means, Lord, for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth. 9 And a voice answered from heaven a second time: What God has cleansed, you must not call common. 10 This happened three times, and all was taken up again into heaven. 11 And behold, immediately three men stood before the house in which we were, sent from Caesarea to me. 12 And the spirit said to me to meet with them without discrimination. And these six brothers also came with me, and we entered the man's house. 13 And he reported to us how he saw the angel standing in his house and saying, "Send to Joppa and bring Simon who is called Peter." 14 Whoever speaks words to you in which you will be saved, you and all your household. 15 And when I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as it had upon us at the beginning. 16 I remembered the saying of the Lord as he said: John indeed baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. 17 If then God gave them the same gift as he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could hinder God? 18 And when they heard these things, they became silent and glorified God, saying, "Surely to the Gentiles God has given repentance unto life." 19 Therefore, those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen passed through to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews. 20 But some men from Cyprus and Cyrene, having come to Antioch, spoke also to the Hellenists, proclaiming the Lord Jesus. 21 And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord. 22 And the word was heard in the ears of the church that was in Jerusalem concerning them, and they sent Barnabas as far as Antioch. 23 Who, having come and seen the Grace of God, rejoiced and encouraged everyone to remain true to the Lord with steadfast purpose. 24 For he was a good man and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a large crowd was added to the Lord. 25 And he went out to Tarsus to seek Saul. 26 And having found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it happened that for a whole year they were gathered together in the church and taught a large crowd, and it was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians. 27 In those days, prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. 28 And one of them, named Agabus, stood up and indicated by the Spirit that a great famine was about to occur over the whole world; which took place during the time of Claudius. 29 And of the disciples, as each one was able, they appointed each of them to send to the brothers living in Judea for ministry. 30 And they did this by sending to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
