1 And it happened that in Iconium they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews and spoke in such a way that a large number of both Jews and Greeks believed. 2 But the disobedient Jews stirred up and troubled the souls of the Gentiles against the brothers. 3 Therefore, they spent a sufficient time boldly speaking about the Lord who bears witness to the word of his Grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. 4 And the multitude of the city was divided; some were with the Jews, and others were with the apostles. 5 And when there was an onset of the nations and of the Jews with their rulers to insult and stone them, 6 Seeing this, they fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the surrounding area. 7 And there they were evangelizing. 8 And a man who was crippled in Lystra sat with his feet, lame from his mother's womb, who had never walked. 9 This man heard Paul speaking; who, fixing his gaze on him and seeing that he had faith to be healed, 10 He said with a loud voice: "Stand up on your feet, straight." And he leaped up and walked about. 11 The crowds, seeing what Paul had done, raised their voices in the Lycaonian language, saying, "The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men." 12 They called Barnabas Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes, since he was the one who led the discourse. 13 The priest of the living Zeus, having brought bulls and crowns to the gates along with the crowds, wanted to offer a sacrifice. 14 And when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard this, they tore their garments and rushed out into the crowd, shouting. 15 And saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We are also men with the same nature as you, preaching the good news to you to turn from these vain things to the living God who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them." 16 He who allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways during the past generations. 17 And yet he did not abandon himself as a good doer, giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and joy. 18 And saying these things, they scarcely ceased the crowds from not sacrificing to them. 19 But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds and stoning Paul, they dragged him outside the city, thinking that he was dead. 20 And when the disciples had surrounded him, he rose up and entered the city. And the next day he went out with Barnabas to Derbe. 21 Having evangelized that city and having made sufficient disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch. 22 Strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to remain in the faith and that through many tribulations it is necessary for us to enter the kingdom of God. 23 And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, they prayed with fasting and commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. 24 And passing through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia. 25 And after speaking the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia. 26 And from there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the Grace of God for the work they had fulfilled. 27 And when they had come together and gathered the church, they reported all that God had done with them and how He had opened to the Gentiles a door of faith. 28 And they spent a considerable time with the disciples.
