1 And when the day of Pentecost was being fulfilled, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them divided tongues as of fire, and it sat upon each one of them. 4 And all were filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 There were residing in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together and was confused because each one heard them speaking in his own dialect. 7 And they were astonished and wondered, saying, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans?" 8 And how do we hear each of us in our own language in which we were born? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and those who dwell in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and those residing there from Rome, 11 Jews and converts, Cretans and Arabs, we hear them speaking in our own languages the wonderful works of God. 12 And all were amazed and were in doubt, saying to one another, "What does this mean?" 13 Others, mocking, said that they are filled with sweet wine. 14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.” 15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall be in the last days, says God, I will pour out from my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. 18 And I will pour out of my Spirit upon my servants and upon my maidservants in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 And I will give wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and spectacular day of the Lord comes. 21 And it will be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. 22 Men of Israel, listen to these words. Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested by God to you with power and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know, 23 This man, delivered up by the predetermined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 Whom God raised, releasing the pains of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. 25 For David says concerning him: "I foresaw the Lord before me always, for he is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken." 26 For this reason my heart was glad and my tongue rejoiced, and still my flesh will dwell in hope. 27 For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, nor will you allow your holy one to see corruption. 28 You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. 29 Brothers, I may speak boldly to you about the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Therefore, being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn to him by an oath that from the fruit of his loins he would set one upon his throne, 31 Seeing this, he spoke about the resurrection of Christ, that neither was he abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32 God raised this Jesus, of whom we all are witnesses. 33 Therefore, being exalted at the right hand of God and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, He poured out this which you see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says: The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand, 35 Until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. 36 Therefore, let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified. 37 And when they heard, they were pierced in the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "What shall we do, brothers?" 38 But Peter said to them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." 39 For to you is the promise and to your children and to all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call. 40 He testified with many other words and urged them, saying: "Save yourselves from this crooked generation." 41 Those therefore who accepted his word were baptized, and on that day about three thousand souls were added. 42 They were continually devoting themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 And all the believers were together and had all things in common. 45 And they sold the possessions and the goods and divided them among all, as anyone had need. 46 And every day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they received food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 Praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the saved daily.
