King James Version
Judges • Chapter 7
1
And Jerubbaal, he Gideon, rose early, and all the people who were with him, and they camped by the spring of Harod, and the camp of Midian was north of them, by the hill of Moreh in the valley.
2
And the LORD said to Gideon, "The people that are with you are too many for me to deliver Midian into their hand, lest Israel boast against me, saying, 'My own hand has saved me.'"
3
And now call in the ears of the people, saying, “Whoever is afraid and trembling, let him return and depart from Mount Gilead.” And there returned of the people twenty-two thousand, and ten thousand remained.
4
And the Lord said to Gideon, "Still the people are too many; bring them down to the waters, and I will test them for you there. And it shall be that the one of whom I say to you, 'This one shall go with you,' he shall go with you; and whoever I say to you, 'This one shall not go with you,' he shall not go."
5
And he brought the people down to the water, and the LORD said to Gideon, "Everyone who laps the water with his tongue like a dog, you shall set apart by himself, and everyone who kneels down on his knees to drink.
6
And the number of the lickers with their hands was three hundred men, and all the rest of the people knelt down on their knees to drink water.
7
And the Lord said to Gideon, "With three hundred men who lap the water, I will save you, and I will give Midian into your hand, and all the people shall go, each to his place."
8
And they took the provisions of the people in their hands and their trumpets, and every man of Israel sent a man to their tents, and among three hundred men, they held firm, and the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
9
And it was that night, and the Lord said to me, "Get up, go down to the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand."
10
And if you are afraid to go down, go down with your young man to the camp.
11
And you will hear what they speak, and afterward your hands will be strengthened, and you will go down to the camp. And he went down, and his servant went with him to the edge of the armed men that were in the camp.
12
And Midian and Amalek and all the sons of the east fell in the valley like locusts for abundance, and their camels were without number like the sand that is on the seashore for abundance.
13
And Gideon came, and behold, a man was recounting to his friend a dream, and he said, "Behold, I dreamed a dream, and behold, a cake of barley bread was tumbling in the camp of Midian." And he came to the tent and struck it, and it fell and turned upside down, and the tent collapsed.
14
And the companion answered and said, "There is nothing but the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel; God has given Midian and all the camp into his hand."
15
And it came to pass, when Gideon heard the number of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshiped; and he returned to the camp of Israel and said, "Arise, for the Lord has given into your hand the camp of Midian."
16
And he divided the three hundred men into three companies and gave trumpets in the hands of all of them and empty pitchers and torches within the pitchers.
17
And he said to them, "From me you will see, and so you shall do. And behold, I am coming to the end of the camp, and it shall be as I do, so you shall do."
18
And I will blow the trumpet; I and all who are with me, and you shall blow the trumpets also around all the camp, and you shall say to the Lord and to Gideon.
19
And Gideon came, and a hundred men who were with him, to the edge of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch; and they had just set the watch, and they blew the trumpets and broke the jars that were in their hands.
20
And they blew the three trumpets and broke the jars, and they held the torches in their left hands and in their right hands the trumpets to blow, and they cried out, "The sword for the Lord and for Gideon!"
21
And each man stood around the camp, and all the camp ran and shouted and fled.
22
And they blew three hundred trumpets, and the LORD set every man's sword against his companion and in all the camp, and the camp fled to Beth Shittah, as far as the edge of Abel Meholah, to Tabat.
23
And a man from Israel, from Naphtali and from Asher and from all of Manasseh, shouted and they pursued after Midian.
24
And Gideon sent messengers to all the mountain of Ephraim, saying, "Go down to meet Midian and capture the waters as far as Beth Barah and the Jordan." And all the men of Ephraim were summoned, and they captured the waters as far as Beth Barah and the Jordan.
25
And the two leaders of Midian captured Orev and Zeeb, and they killed Orev at the rock of Orev and Zeeb they killed at the winepress of Zeeb, and they pursued into Midian, and they brought the heads of Orev and Zeeb to Gideon across the Jordan.
