Mark chapter 5 demonstrates Jesus’ authority over demons, disease, and death. Jesus encounters a man possessed by many demons in the region of the Gadarenes. The demons identify themselves as “Legion” before Jesus casts them into a herd of pigs, completely restoring the man. The people of the region respond with fear and ask Jesus to leave.

The chapter also records two powerful miracles connected together. A woman suffering from chronic bleeding for many years is healed after touching Jesus’ garment in faith. At the same time, Jesus goes to the house of Jairus, whose daughter has died, and raises the girl back to life. These events reveal Jesus’ compassion, divine authority, and power over every form of human suffering.
