Matthew Chapter 16
Matthew chapter 16 records increasing opposition from the Pharisees and Sadducees, who demand a sign from heaven. Jesus rebukes them for failing to recognize the spiritual signs already before them. He warns His disciples about the “leaven” of the Pharisees and Sadducees, referring to their corrupt teaching and hypocrisy.

At Caesarea Philippi, Peter declares that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus blesses Peter for this revelation and speaks about building His church. Jesus then begins openly teaching His disciples about His coming suffering, death, and resurrection. When Peter resists this message, Jesus rebukes him and teaches that true discipleship requires denying oneself, taking up the cross, and following Him.
