Matthew Chapter 9
Matthew chapter 9 continues to reveal the authority and mercy of Jesus through miracles, forgiveness, and teaching. Jesus heals a paralyzed man and declares his sins forgiven, astonishing the crowds and angering religious leaders who accuse Him of blasphemy. Jesus then calls Matthew, a tax collector, to follow Him and later eats with tax collectors and sinners, explaining that He came to call sinners to repentance rather than the self-righteous.

The chapter records several miracles demonstrating Jesus’ power over sickness and death. A woman suffering from chronic bleeding is healed by touching His garment in faith, and Jesus raises a ruler’s daughter from death. He also restores sight to blind men and casts out a demon from a man unable to speak. As Jesus travels through cities and villages teaching, preaching, and healing, He is moved with compassion for the crowds because they are weary and scattered like sheep without a shepherd. He tells His disciples that the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few, urging prayer for more workers in God’s harvest.
