King James Version

1 Samuel • Chapter 29

1 And the Philistines gathered all their camps at Aphek, and Israel camped by the spring that is in Jezreel. 2 And the commanders of the Philistines were passing by hundreds and thousands, and David and his men were passing behind with Achish. 3 And the leaders of the Philistines said, "What are these Hebrews?" And Achish said to the leaders of the Philistines, "Is this not David, the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me for days or even years, and I have found nothing in him from the day he fell until this day?" 4 And the leaders of the Philistines were angry with him, and they said to him, "Return the man and let him go back to his place that you have appointed for him, and let him not go down with us to the battle, and let him not be a stumbling block to us in the battle; for with what could this one please his master? Is it not with the heads of these men?" 5 Is this not David, to whom they would sing in their dances, saying, "Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands"? 6 And Achish called to David and said to him, "As the Lord lives, you are upright, and it is good in my eyes that you go out and come in with me in the camp, for I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me until this day, and in the eyes of the commanders, you are not good." 7 And now return and go in peace, and do not do evil in the eyes of the princes of the Philistines. 8 And David said to Achish, "What have I done, and what have you found in your servant from the day that I came before you until this day? For I have not sinned and fought against the enemies of my lord the king." 9 And Achish answered and said to David, "I have known that you are good in my eyes like an angel of God; however, the lords of the Philistines have said, 'He shall not go up with us to the battle.'" 10 And now, get up early in the morning, you and the servants of your lord who came with you, and get up early in the morning and go forth. 11 And David rose early, he and his men, to go in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines went up against Israel.
